Nice Updates Today in Commercial Appeal - HardBall Fan - 05-17-2023 10:48 AM

Good update article.

- Football stadium renovations (investing big, gonna look like we belong)
- Money being invested in football "raising eyebrows" with conference realignment for Memphis
- Veatch feels "very good" about where Memphis is positioned and what it can provide.
- Student Athlete Success Center & Housing — housing RFPs going out soon; likely breaking ground this time next year to 18 months from now. Student Athlete Success Center a "high priority." Need to get funding for it up to where it can be on same timeframe as the housing. It has been "slowed down a bit" because funding has shifted to Liberty Stadium but still a priority.
- Tennis center to be completed this summer or fall.

I believe they are making a push to get donations to the 901 fund.

If they’d spend 1/4 of the time pushing for NIL that they spend pestering me about renewing tickets, we’d lead the nation in NIL funding.

USF is issuing $200 million in 20-year bonds to finance their new stadium.

We are way ahead of the game thanks to the state money.

NIL is important. Season ticket sales are important. Facilities are important. Annual fundraising is important. Maintaining R-1 and growing research is I,portent. Improving graduation rates is important. Improving academic rep is Important. Reducing negative attitudes is important yet apparently futile.

They announced plans in 2021 and there hasn't been a peep that I can find about how fundraising has gone. I think it's pretty safe to assume that aside from the $22 million for design and planning, fundraising hasn't gone well at all.

At the end of the day it looks like it will get built, so that's all that counts.

Per a poster on the Conference Expansion board:

USF Stadium
Initial price tag: $340 million
University Funded: $140 million
Seeking Loan: $200 million, 20 years, 5.5% fixed interest rate

Stadium will be 35,000-seat structure

Based on monthly payments they would pay roughly $16.5 million per year and $331 million over the course of the 20 years. The prime lending rate is 8.25% and seemingly rising, so this would be a major bargain and a major risk to the state. At 8.25% the payments would be $20.5 million and $412 million respectively.

It's a staggering amount of money to be on the hook for every month; and that is after they drain all of their boosters' coffers for the $140 million down payment.

That’s a lot of hot dogs for the 6,000 people who go to their games after they apparently pay about $500 each to park.

Raymond James stadium is the nicest football arena I have ever visited. Interesting that USF sees the need for an on campus stadium while playing a nice venue while Memphis continues to prop up the LB that ironically was the same style as the "big sombrero" but older.

You are so right! This guy is one of several posters who cannot bring themselves to ever say anything positive about anything Tiger related. They are exhausting.

Penny sucks, he will miss the tournament again next year and won't make the NIT. Fire him and beg the NCAA for mercy. Silverfield sucks, the admin sucks, fire all of them and beg the NCAA for mercy, the conference sucks, there are 20 schools ahead of us for expansion, if we do get picked, our new conference will suck.

It's all about keeping it real.
