May Monday Matters (#1) - emu steve - 05-01-2023 06:00 AM

In the absence of our weekly threads about anything and everything...

Super broke the news about 5g on West Campus. 5g is the latest and greatest and if implemented will replace what is apparently bad cell reception on West campus.

So EMU continues to make improvements, e.g., moved the HOF and now improved cell service.

The status of the Rynearson track is something no one talks about but should...

EMU had two players leave for the NFL and the other green and white team, MSU, had some stars leave for the transfer portal.

Going O/T but the Lions had a wild draft including two 1s, two 2s and a 3. And the 3rd rounder was thought of as a possible 1st rounder (albeit with an ACL).

Just a general comment: Aren't there still tons of MBB and CFB transfers out there in the portal awaiting a new home?

In talking with Alex, talk around the Football locker room is that there are solid plans in process for stadium improvements including the removal of the track. Nothing significant planned before the '23 season, though. Take that for what it's worth.

That would be GREAT NEWS.

EMU has cleared enough free land where the now demolished apartments were. Put up some bleachers seating say one thousand.

As I have said, many times, ad nauseum (?), if EMU extends the green Field Turf to the stands the visible appeal will be much, much improved. Later work on other things to 'reduce' the green space.

Removal of the track would be HUGE. It would be much better to look at and also elevates the football program. I wonder if they would move seating closer to the field creating a better game day experience.

I've been praying for better facilities and also bringing in a a legit P5 team to Rynearson for an OOC game.

I mentioned this before that I emailed Weatherbee during last football season complaining about the state of the football stadium and to his credit he emailed back and said they would do better

They could add field level seats like the NFL has. I think they add say 3 or
4 rows at field level.

Wayne State has become a baseball power. I don't know their secret.

Although they have nice facilities.

Maybe Monday DID matter for this MSU player.

Joined the transfer portal on Sunday and denounced it on Tuesday.

Change of heart on Monday? (like 24 or 48 hours????)

A team spokesman confirmed on Tuesday that junior cornerback Charles Brantley, who submitted his name into the transfer portal on Sunday, the final day to do so, had withdrawn his name.

It is nice to see EMU prominently featured in so much of the USFL and their teams’ social media. https://www.instagram.com/p/CrzBJWJMACt/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Thanks. And the key thing is that the project to remove the track will take time. That isn't something 'simple' like new lights, i.e., something which is standalone and doesn't effect land, big bucks, etc.

You are spot on!

The lead story in today's FREEP has to do with the new UofM staffer who espoused some nasty stuff on social media.

Don't public facing employers check social media first???

It is subscriber only and yes, I don't subscribe.

I understand budgets and which sports generate revenue, but if the track is removed from Rynearson, I hope the new track facilities are top notch. Historically, Rynearson has been where track championships have been won and football was played. Much hope and respect for the future of Football though.

Hopefully adequate to host MAC outdoor championships.

USA Today an article. Coaches not happy with Deion. Signed 42 players mostly from the portal.
Assume he ran off tons of 2022 players.
