It's almost as if the NCAA tries to always make the wrong decision or create legislation that is unenforceable. How is it possible to consistently screw up like they do? Who are the people that live in their clueless bubble? They're as useless as tits on a bull.

JMU denied waiver to shorten its FBS transition - JMUDunk - 04-26-2023 11:42 PM

Shocking.

Shocking I tell ya!

These youngen’s start ups ain’ pepared!

Only kicked their collective azzes, won an invite to a Conf title game and had to knuckle to to a 47-7 loser then watching them get boat raced a week later for our title.

Good grief. We don’ jumped from one bush league to yet another bush league and seemingly haven’t missed nary a beat.

How is JMU now competing with the “Big boys” with this kinda crap?

Looks like there is some hope if we take care of business but still what a dumb rule. At least the NCAA is consistent In disappointing people. Go 12-0 for all of the athletes who have been let down by the NCAA.

What a joke...

Hope this doesn't create a bump in our guys going to the portal

RE: JMU denied waiver to shorten its FBS transition - Polish Hammer - 04-27-2023 06:06 AM

What a monumental clusterf#$k! How does the NCAA justify such a stance given how we addressed year 1 of the transition? I’m guessing some older players that weren’t considering it are now conflicted on jumping into the portal while it’s open. SMH…

Pathetic, spineless decision by the NCAA board . not based on merit of the program, but on some ancient precedent. in a time of change, the NCAA could be one of the most archaic institutions out there. Precedent has been re-written in every aspect of society over the past several years, and the NCAA proves they have no interest in changing with the times and putting common sense into policy.
let's see how this decision benefits the Student athlete at JMU.
who's on the governing committee? anyone have a link ?
this was either a very lazy, uninformed decision or punitive .
i certainy expect JMU to not let this die - Alger , time to use those legal skills to challenge this.

It's no wonder the the P5 is considering moving away from the NCAA, they are a bunch of incompetent buffoons. This ruling makes no sense at all and again, it's the student athletes that are punished. I'd be willing to bet my next paycheck that had you replace JMU with UNC/Ohio St/<any other marquee program> (read serious revenue producer), the ruling would be different. It's a sad day.

RE: JMU denied waiver to shorten its FBS transition - Polish Hammer - 04-27-2023 06:10 AM

I wonder if there is an appeal process, and/or they could put this through a vote of the member schools.

RE: JMU denied waiver to shorten its FBS transition - 91Alum - 04-27-2023 06:13 AM

Vannini refers to Coastal as the "division co-champion" last year. Ha.

I'm not paying to read the whole things, but does the NCAA have to justify or explain this decision. Or do they just get to hand this down and walk away.

So much for putting the student athletes first. This also screws us out of millions - not being a "full" SBC football member.

Do we have any friends at ESPN in high places05-stirthepot, seems like this would be a great expose' for a story on the continued incompetence of the NCAA .

RE: JMU denied waiver to shorten its FBS transition - bcp_jmu - 04-27-2023 06:34 AM

NCAA - gambling is now OK ..beer is now OK...paying players is now OK... unfettered transferring is OK

But if you prepare, win, invest, and are financially sound - it's not OK to advance faster.

Got it...

RE: JMU denied waiver to shorten its FBS transition - Polish Hammer - 04-27-2023 06:42 AM

I wonder how much effort the SBC put in on our behalf? They should have been fighting tooth and nail for this just as much as we were for ourselves. They should’ve been politicking behind the scenes to make sure it was going to pass. This is a horrible decision that makes no sense. Get screwed 3 straight years, leaving the bush league CAA and then first two years in the SBC.

Why does it not surprise me the RTD has this as breaking news on their title page, they love a good schadenfreude story about JMU...

Such ******* bull****

RE: JMU denied waiver to shorten its FBS transition - Duke Dawg - 04-27-2023 06:50 AM

This ruling makes zero sense.

This is not like st Thomas moving its entire athletic department from D2 to D1.

We are already D1. We are just moving subdivisions within d1.

And the NCAA already has a safeguard in place for making sure teams are competitive enough to qualify for a bowl so you don’t pad your schedule

Must have six wins.
Only one can be an fcs opponent.
Must have 5 fbs home games
Must be invited by an existing conference to go to fbs

The rules are already in place to prevent schools who are not ready.

So why do you need a waiver? It. Is. Pointless.

If a conference is ok with you playing a full conference schedule, and you win enough games and meet the criteria above, you are obviously good enough for a bowl game.

The waiver should be NO years, not two, or even one.

Absolutely stupid rule.

RE: JMU denied waiver to shorten its FBS transition - JMad03 - 04-27-2023 06:57 AM

The whole reason we were able to do this was due to an exception that allowed FCS schools to have a higher number of scholarship players due to COVID. That doesn't happen every year. My understanding was that part of the transition was to allow schools to build up their scholarship limits so as not to overload a particular class.
I realize I'm preaching to the choir, but this is such a load of crap.
This absolutely is going to have an impact. There are going to be players that don't want to wait around this year and will bail. Some will probably feel like they were lied to.
And I wish I could say the media fallout would have an impact, but it really won't. There will be a LOT of talk and publicity for sure. There will be a lot of bad things said about the NCAA. But in the end it will accomplish nothing.
The only positive that may come out of this is we may get more support from media outlets, but that's about it.
Yay.

RE: JMU denied waiver to shorten its FBS transition - JMU2004 - 04-27-2023 07:16 AM

Just stupid. The NCAA is worried about precedent? That is rich.

JMU's precedent was build the facilities, build the program, hop through every hoop regarding scheduling, and then go 8-3 and win the division. Oh yeah, and be at a full FBS scholarship limits after one year. Wouldn't that be a precedent you want followed?

I'm sure if there were $$$$ to be grifted or litigation threatened, they'd find a way to make it happen. Gutless wonders.

Congrats to whoever finishes 2nd in the East this year.

RE: JMU denied waiver to shorten its FBS transition - brizzock - 04-27-2023 07:21 AM

Odds are, there aren’t enough 6-6 teams to fill bowl slots. Let’s just win and get in to ANY bowl, and kick someone’s ass. We have a challenging schedule this year—if we get 6 FBS wins, someone will gladly take us for a bowl game. I hope we are fortunate enough to be grumbling that we couldn’t participate in another conference title game at the end of the year.

JMU has always been about the marathon, not the sprint—we’ll be ready for every opportunity that comes our way.
