The author says outside of Bronny James no other HS athlete has ever reached his level of fame... I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that this author is too young to remember LeBron James the HS star. This kid may be a social media star. He was literally and global regular media star by his Jr year.

Right as usual, anti-zip. I can think of so many others, too, who had reached similar fame in high school: In Ohio there was Jerry Lucas, Clark Kellog, Jimmy Jackson, OJ Mayo.... And of course, in Indiana Damon Bailey and Rick Mount. Yes, the writer is probably pretty young.

Just want to say, this article is embarrassingly bad to be on our website. Does anyone read this stuff? How does an article like this even get created? Is it AI? Or sidearm sports generating cookie cutter articles for all teams then incorrectly filling in names? Mid article it lists out the former Shockers (that's Witchita State not us) to participated in the PIT. Then later in the article it calls Carry "Porter" which is likely a mix up with Witchita State's Craig Porter who also played in the PIT. We live in the golden age of garbage reporting.

Here's the Witchita version of the same article.

"golden age of garbage reporting" is right. That's worse than when the official MAC website once referred to Trevor as "Hoffman". Errors have always been with us. I remember close to 30 years ago a newspaper, no doubt using some early version of automatic correction, once wrote, "The increased funding is expected to put the budget back in the African-American." But it's worse than ever now.

Cleveland.com captioned a picture of Senderoff during the MAC tournament (I think the championship game?) as John Groce.

Anyone that has Paul Hoynes writing articles doesn’t care about editing and/or getting the facts right.

Looks like we added another former Indian Hills transfer, Tyem Freeman 6'6" wing played the last two years at UCF with minimal impact. So far we're 3 for 3 on recruits from Indian Hills and 1 for 1 on former Indian Hills players that transferred here after not having much success at their first stop. It looks like he was a freshman Payton's Sophomore year before playing two years at UCF so I think that means he has two years left (with one of those years being the free COVID year).

To make Freeman's eligiblity even more confusing... The article on our website says he will have "at least" two years of eligibility left. At least? How could he possibly have more?

I don't see how he can have more than two. I assume his year in JUCO doesn't count because it was the COVID year. But he did play two full seasons at UCF.

Yeah gotta just be poor wording. He has two.

Unless my addition is wrong (very possible), Kent is one over the scholarship limit, unless I'm missing something. Any math majors out there???

I believe you're right. I assume someone won't be back and we just haven't heard who yet.

We just finished the Under Armour Session II in Rock Hill, SC. Randal Holt was there for us looking at players and Eric Haut for NKU. I had them look at a kid from Memphis who plays HS ball with my son. They both loved him. Then after they watched him, my guy went bananas and scored 47 last night. He was flying under the radar before and now a lot of mid-majors are showing him the love. He got 4 offers last night. Still think he is gettable and hope we pursue him. This is really an enjoyable time watching kids we have known for years that have worked their butts off getting scholarship offers.

Ali Ali is heading back to Akron.

And he committed to Belmont today.

Maybe that will become a common occurrence. Maybe such transfers back will become known as "prodigal son transfers".

Maybe, but I doubt it. Over the years most of the MAC players to jump to a bigger school and not work out did it in their 4th year. That's what Ali Ali did too. However, because of the free COVID year he still has one left. That will all work itself out soon.

I'd say if there's a freshman or sophomore in the MAC that's already good enough to jump to a bigger school he's more likely to succeed there.

Agree. I was just trying to be funny. The only basketball player I can recall starting at Kent State, leaving, then coming back was Jay Peters. He was at Kent State as a freshman but left before practices began and went to a D III school. He came back to Kent State for the 2nd semester in 1986/87 and was outstanding.

I know, I know, I’m a dinosaur. But if I were the good people at Akron I would tell Ali Ali to take a flying leap.

It’s sort of why I never cheered for the Cadavers after the Lying King returned.

Freaking stretch fours.

What Ali Ali is doing is not uncommon. Memphis had a kid (Tyler Harris) who played for them, left and went to Iowa State for a year, came back to Memphis, and then finished last year at South Florida (wasn't really wanted in Memphis for his senior season). It probably happens a couple of times every year (just a guess).

I get what you're saying, but when you're a John Groce type you just have to be super excited that someone who has met you in person willingly chooses to subject themselves to more of you.
