Unofficial FB Spring Ball Thread - emu steve - 03-04-2023 08:55 AM
When the calendar turns over to March 1, mortgages are due. MBB season is due to end shortly (did yesterday) and spring ball for football is to begin in the weeks ahead. Indoor T&F had their championships but few noticed. Baseball is moving northward and a few have noticed. EMU baseball is about 75 miles from me today.
The 'problem' with EMU FB spring ball is mining useful information out of the practices. "Coming off a big bowl win our players are excited to get back to football and the 2023 season." No, that sound bite isn't C.C. but my parroting what he might say. Not hardly CIA material.
Too often articles and other media are nice, but do not tell me anything new or something I'd really like to know.
Everyone can chime in with their questions: QB? OL? DL? But at the end of the spring practices it will be what we see at the spring game. And since it is NOT livestreamed only a few will see it live and unless they have phenomenal visual and spatial acuity they will 'miss' most of it. (replay and multiple camera really improved FB as a spectator sport).
Anyway, anything to get fans minds off of MBB and the snow (I hear it was bad, heavy and wet). And baseball weather is in the mid-Atlantic, not Midwest.

This Spring will be huge for identifying a quarterback. I have a sneaking suspicion that McCoy gets real attention. I like Smith and would be good either way.
Also the O-line.....we have the 2 anchors back in Howie and Dooley but the other spots are open for competition. We will see who comes out on top....Mayo, Dmitri, Conti...

I hope we get some good information from spring ball. Unless I can say who had a good spring or got injured or whatever, spring ball is a big waste for fans. We get more info on secret plans in Ukraine than spring ball at EMU.
Kind of like in NBA. If two teams have shoot arounds on game day and I don't learn who is hurt, etc. what's the story? Teams having shoot arounds isn't a story any more than the sun rising is a story.

Spring Ball starts tomorrow I believe.
It will be strange not having Hass, Speights, Drummond or the others that have been contributors for a while
I am excited to see fresh faces and perhaps most importantly, what the attitude of the team is coming off a bowl win and even higher expectations. Lord knows the talent is here to make a push to win the MAC and win another bowl game.

Looks like 17 or 18 scholarship seniors this year which gives you an idea of how potentially large the 2024 recruiting class might be.

1st scrimmage in the books. 6 practices held.....still no coverage from our athletic media department.
Coming off all the momentum from a 9 win season and bowl win, wow I'm surprised we don't have anything posted
I've heard in the past that they are busy with other sports. lol
Cmon guys. while I think they do a nice job at times, nut this is a missed opportunity. Interview with any of the new coaches? Interview with the new D.C.? Interview with Samson Evans? THIS IS OUR OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP INTO A SERIOUS G5 TEAM. We need coverage to keep the momentum going. where is it?

Hopefully more than "We continue to have spirited workouts. The players are motivated by a bowl win and want more in 2023..."
