San Diego State - Ken Barna - 01-01-2023 10:59 AM

Dear Friends,
When speaking of conference realignments, I just read some broadcaster or news writer, can't remember, predict, that the PAC 12 will announce some time this year, the inclusion into the PAC 12, San Diego State.
The reason I bring this up is our future schedule for 2027, has San Diego State as a home game. I was thinking if that game is still going to be played, what are the financial ramifications for Eastern?
Anyone else heard of this?

Good question. I would expect that either SDSU plays the game per the contract or try to buy their way out of the game. I'm assuming the contract would not force EMU to pay more just because SDSU is in a new conference.

That would be so cool to host a PAC-12 opponent!! Hopefully they don’t buy out the contract.

Dear WoodenNickle and RamyEMU,
I agree with both of you, and hope the game stays as scheduled. My thinking though, is that San Diego State could claim scheduling problems with PAC 12, whether true or not, and get out of the contract. Of course all of this depends on if San Diego State actually becomes a PAC 12 member.

I'm not sure.

Isn't SDSU a member of a conference (MWC) today? Don't they play say 8 or 9 conference and 3 or 4 OOC games)?

Here is SDSU's 2027 schedule. I see 3 OOC games, including ours. Hence, NO reason to back out. https://fbschedules.com/2027-san-diego-state-football-schedule/

I don't see a reason, real or made up, for them to back out of the game without paying a significant amount.

The caveat is that you can't make a team play you, even with a contract. There should be provisions in the contract for either team to back out.
