Facilities thread CUSA 4.0 - Ewglenn - 12-31-2022 01:06 PM

What facility projects is your school working on? We’re breaking ground on our new football center on 1/19/23.

RE: Facilities thread CUSA 4.0 - Frontierman - 12-31-2022 02:02 PM

At the moment Liberty is done making improvements to our football facilities (I genuinely have no clue what we would improve). We are almost complete with another indoor practice facility for our non revenue sports. This one will be primarily for baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse. Everytime I think we are done building, they find another project so I'm sure something else will be announced soon.

When are the football ones happening? 6 million isn’t a lot for a press box. What’s the plan there?

NMSU has over $1million for new turf for the football stadium.

NM State Board of Regents approve bond to build new $15 million football locker room

Quote:LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KTSM) – The New Mexico State Board of Regents approved a bond issuance on Thursday that will, in part, finance a new, $15 million locker room facility for the Aggies’ football team.

The Board approved revenue bonds totaling $28.5 million that will be used for four facility improvement projects across campus, which includes a $15 million locker room addition inside Aggie Memorial Stadium, in the north end zone across from the Hall of Legends.

The facility will not only feature a football locker room, but a nutrition center; mental health facility; and athletic training facilities that other athletes besides football players will be able to use.

With New Mexico State set to join Conference USA in 2023, the facilities upgrade is not only much-needed; it will help the Aggies be more competitive.

“One of the things about having a successful football program is it raises awareness for the institution, which raises ticket sales, which helps us be more self-sufficient,” said NMSU director of athletics Mario Moccia. “That’s a big thing because having that locker room and that facility is something that recruits look at. Rising tides lift all boats; we need that, it’ll help the football program and all of our facilities as we enter into Conference USA.”

The bonds will be paid for by student fees, but in doing so, the students will not incur any extra charges than they’re already paying currently. The bonds will be paid off over the course of 20 years. The Board of Regents approved the bond issuance unanimously.

The Pan American Center will also get some upgrades through the bond, though not at the request of the athletic department, as it is not operated by athletics, but by special events. The arena’s improvements will be $1.2 million to replace retractable seating in the lower bowl; $1.2 million to replace arena seats in the lower bowl; and $900,000 for upper bowl and sound system improvements.

Suite view: $2.9 million gift funds new Pan American Center construction project

Quote:The Pan American Center will have a different look when a new section of suites and a premium club seating area located on the north end debuts in fall 2022. An anonymous $2.9 million philanthropic gift to the NMSU Foundation, which will benefit Aggie athletics, funded the construction that began in March 2022.

Prior to the new project, the Pan Am Center boasted just one premium seating option for Aggie men’s basketball. The changes will increase the facility’s premium seating capacity to benefit all three Aggie teams who call the Pan Am Center home — men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball.

“In the pantheon of individual private giving to Aggie athletics in our 100-year history, this is comparable only to the gift made by Stan Fulton to create our athletics center,” says Director of Athletics Mario Moccia. “The added significance of this gift is that the project will result in a lifelong revenue stream for the Department of Athletics.”

The Pan Am Center will now have a total of six suites. Three suites will be built on each end of the north side, and in between the two sections of suites will be a 32-seat club section. Directly behind the 32-seat club section, a club area will be available to club ticket holders and groups during Aggie games.

Suites have been leased to groups on a multi-year basis and provide excellent vantage points to attend the various concerts and events held at the Pan Am Center throughout each year.

“I cannot thank our anonymous donor enough for not just this gift, but for the enterprising business acumen provided on this project that will help our 400 Aggie student-athletes in perpetuity,” Moccia says. “The Pan American Center has an incredible history and with projects such as this, as well as our newly-installed video board, we have been able to continue modernizing the facility in ways that will give a new generation of Aggie fans opportunities to create everlasting memories.”

All suites are sold out.

Nice looking upgrades. This is not only good for NMSU and the other schools that are upgrading, but it’s good for CUSA. Exciting to see the improvements at all the different schools.

The building across the stadium is the Stan Fulton Center. Suites, offices and other amenities.

Our existing weight room is top notch. It would be almost exactly where the picture would have been taken in the rendering. The weight room was recently upgraded with all new equipment and state of the art technology.

Not sure what will happen to the existing locker rooms. They recently got a $200k upgrade, but they are not very nice.

I think the football ones are slated to begin at the end of the 23 season if I remember correctly. I haven't seen much in the way of renderings for the pressbox. I have heard rumors that we are looking at a MAC stadium that is of similar construction to ours as the blueprint for the upgrade. I don't know that we will be adding suites as we already have a club level on the new side. The pressbox update is more about convenience. Elevators and HVAC primarily.

Will visiting teams to Enemas U. be allowed to use the new locker rooms too? If I remember correctly a few years back the UTEP football team had to use tents outside because of the lack of locker rooms. Do you remember?

Since we'll be conference members, probably. UNM on the other hand gets a tree.

I don't remember the tent thing.

This is the only time I remember anything related to tents. And it was an air conditioning issue, not a lack of locker rooms. It was hotter inside than outside.

Long story short, it was unusually humid and the swamp coolers could not keep the locker rooms cool. Not sure if most of CUSA territory is too familiar with swamp coolers though.

Not claiming that I’ve done a personal inspection tour or anything like that. But my honest hunch would be that Liberty’s overall facilities are second only to BYU among non-P5 programs.

RE: Facilities thread CUSA 4.0 - SlyFox - 01-09-2023 03:03 PM

I'd take that BYU challenge.

Here is a view today from the construction cam of the Multipurpose Building that is being constructed to essentially be the indoor practice facility for baseball, softball and the non-revenue sports. This way football keeps their IPF all to themselves.

We also are building onto our softball stadium complex with more indoor batting cage and upgraded locker rooms. But otherwise I think we have slowed down our athletics construction. With the indoor track complex, natatorium & basketball arena finished up within the past year or so we should be good. Of yeah, we didn't increase capacity at our stadium but did a ton of upgrades to our 25k football stadium in advance of hosting BYU & Virginia Tech this past season.

From what I remember, the old locker room facility will be converted into visiting locker rooms and some other office space. Visitors used to have to use the locker rooms next to the Coca Cola weight room, which quite frankly are inadequate. They are too small for D1 roster sizes and has led to many complaints over the years. Repurposing the existing locker rooms for visiting locker rooms is an upgrade for those teams visiting AMS.

GO AGGIES!!!
