MAC MBB (what to expect, maybe) - pantone1935 - 12-31-2022 11:30 AM

Hard to figure, what with injuries, improvement and intangibles, but here goes. Looking back at the non-conference season we can look at records, s.o.s., and ncaa rankings. Low score means good things.

Team/Div 1 record/NCAA NET rank*/Strength of schedule**/RESULT

Kent St/8-3/23/+2.67/// 5
Toledo/8-4/106/-.38/// 12
Buffalo/4.7/205/+6.11/// 13.5
Ohio/7-5/120/-.43/// 16
Akron/6-5/143/+.22/// 16
Ball St/7-4/128/-4.10/// 18
NIU/3-8/286/+2.67/// 20.5
CMU/3-8/255/+.70/// 21.5
BGSU/6-5/281/-4.57/// 26.5
WMU/1-9/329/+1.48/// 27
EMU/2-10/299/+.02/// 29

** per KenPom

Kent was consistent and played Gonzaga, Houston and College of Charleston very close. If they do well in conference they have chance for good tournament seed.
S.O.S. helped Kent , Buffalo and NIU. CMU's upset of Michigan and WMU playing Wisc close helped them at the end.

Just as a note KenPom and Sagarin give the BIG Names too much starting credit and up and down movement is too slow. See below the disparity of big names and a team like Sam Houston.

NET KenPom Sagarin
ND 8-6 172 111 112
FSU 4-10 241 150 121
SamHou 6-3 34 88 105
Louisville 2-11 345 257 226

I am sure MD would have had a better formula. But I am retired and have too much time on my hands.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
