maybe this is what Veatch meant regarding NIL $$

RE: Portal casualties - MtownTigers916 - 12-29-2022 03:18 PM

Lost two of our best returning players in a matter of minutes. The transfer portal giveth and the transfer portal taketh away.

Well, I didn’t think my $9.01 monthly NIL commitment would have kept arguably the top 2 pro prospects on the team……but I had hoped it would help keep the promising up & comers stay a year longer……good luck to each in their future careers…..it will be interesting to see where they end up…..& then how much PT they get there.

Should be interesting to see what kind of players we can land in Conference USA 2.0

RE: Portal casualties - BERT56 - 12-29-2022 03:38 PM

We picked up a DL from A & M. And we signed Christian Ross who is a bigger version of Sean Dykes. And Landphere can be as good if not better than Prieskorn.

That is going to be an issue. The new conference is going to hurt recruiting.

Just be in the top of the G 5 and it will be ok. Not all those players will be able to play at the schools they transfer to, or they will run off some other kids that we will have to pick up in the portal ourselves.

We'll be fine.

Caden Prieskorn
Cameron Wright
CamRon Jackson

Javon Ivory joins them in the portal. I expect CamRon will get P5 offers and Caden may as well. Doubtful for the other 2. Which begs the question...do you let someone come back after they have entered the portal?

I like Javon but I think the consensus was that it was best for all involved.

I like his hands and his route running is solid but he just doesn't have High D1 speed.

RE: Portal casualties - fsquid - 12-29-2022 04:15 PM

This is the new era, I'm sure we will be announcing some incoming transfers in the next week.

RE: Portal casualties - Marc Mensa - 12-29-2022 04:28 PM

Ryan has got to do whatever it takes to get to 9 wins next season… these defections make it tougher.

RE: Portal casualties - Crazier - 12-29-2022 04:33 PM

We missed the Big 12 train. With the NIL , we'll be losing our best players every year.

RE: Portal casualties - MtownTigers916 - 12-29-2022 04:34 PM

We didn’t miss Ivory at all in the bowl game. He never had breakaway speed and I think there are dozens of players in the portal just like him (or better).

We always reload at TE. Prieskorn will be missed, but we will be fine

CamRon is probably heading to Florida. His transfer is the only one that I think is a bad move. He was featured large (literally) on our defense. He got a lot of press. He will lose his celebrity status at Florida and be just another defensive lineman (on a middling team).

RE: Portal casualties - MtownTigers916 - 12-29-2022 04:40 PM

Outside of Taj Washington, is there a player we’ve lost to the portal that’s ended up making noise?

RE: Portal casualties - msu35 - 12-29-2022 04:47 PM

The portal is a two-way street. Sure, we will lose some players, but we will also have the opportunity to get new players. Not the end of the world and illustrates how NIL will be the most important facet moving forward. Paying players is the name of the game, not like it wasn't before, but it's now out in the open.

RE: Portal casualties - MemphisFootballFan - 12-29-2022 04:57 PM

Prieskorn and Jackson are players we didn't want to lose. I really liked Big Cam.

We still have a better roster than everyone left in the American
