I'll say it:

I think coming to the Sunbelt was not the best option.

Before we moved, I stated we should wait out to CUSA and see what develops with the NCAA transition fallout. Now I believe more and more that should have been the play.

RE: To quote another poster on another forum: - forphase1 - 12-05-2022 10:56 AM

I'll say it. That is an INSANE opinion. Have you SEEN that trash that's going to be in CUSA going forward? And you REALLY that that was a smarter option? Geez.

RE: To quote another poster on another forum: - Johns1124 - 12-05-2022 11:09 AM

Until realignment yes. SB is not heads above the SB, if you say so your just kidding yourself. In my opinion, SB is App. State and everyone else. Sort of like MTW is Boise and everyone else.

The problem lies, now we are stuck for the better part of 10 years no matter what direction the conference goes. Ask yourself this if the opportunity to go to the AAC came up today would you go? Hell yes, you would like everyone else. It was the better option. We only jumped at the SB wh that door seemed closed.

My concern is, the NCAA will have a final re-alignment, and there will be a few conferences dropping down to an FCS or equivalent. CUSA and SB will be both on the chopping block. I think it would haven't been an easier way to be picked up by a bigger conference who will be staying if we don't have suck a binding contractwith the SB.

RE: To quote another poster on another forum: - forphase1 - 12-05-2022 11:16 AM

Just to go deeper, as this is still blowing my mind that anyone with a pulse believes this nonsense, by what possible measure would being in CUSA be better? Other than MAYBE Liberty and WKU, there is absolutely NOTHING redeeming in CUSA or even in the MAC, which would have been our only other option. The Sun Belt was a breath of fresh air and is exactly where we need to be. These Marshall fans who are crying about the bowl selection need to look at ourselves and realize that we, the team and coaching staff, blew things this year, and it's not the Sun Belt fault that we didn't play good enough to deserve a better bowl or better bowl opponent. Yeah, we are 8-4, but 2 of those wins are against FCS teams. Heck, we lost to Bowling Green and now we are whining about playing freaking UConn?!?!?!? Honestly, we got a better bowl than we deserved. With the way we pissed the bed after Notre Dame, I'm surprised we didn't get put into Potato bowl or something crazy, but instead we have a GREAT location for fans to travel and see us play. We should be grateful we got anything after the way we played.

Oh yes, the SB is heads above CUSA. If you can't see that, then this conversation is over as there is no reasoning with ya. Still love ya as a Marshall fan, but...geez.

As to the AAC, I'm honestly not sure I'd rather be there. Other than Memphis and ECU, there isn't really anything there I'd care to play on a regular basis. All are either snobby privates (Tulsa, Tulane, etc), crappy programs (Temple) or recent CUSA trash that I'm happy to be away from now (Charlotte, etc). Navy would be nice, but since they are in the west we'd rarely play them anyway.

As to the rest of your post, we are in a better position now to move up than if we'd stayed in that sinking CUSA ship. If such a realignment as you propose happens, being in CUSA or Sun Belt would not make a bit of difference as to our attractiveness to whatever 'bigger conference' is looking at us. As we showed with CUSA, contracts are made to be broken if necessary. Though I doubt such a situation happens. If there is a break away of the top teams, I doubt we are included, regardless of what conference we may currently reside in.

"Of course! I'm sure all the top teams in the A10 were dodging us like all the power schools in the area were, and by golly this was the best darn schedule we could possibly make given that everyone else is scared to play us! I mean, coming off a 12-21 season, I'm sure all those schools were just terrified at getting crushed by us. But this schedule is perfect, and is going to have us SO ready to dominate the Sun Belt and to later just roll right through the NCAA tournament. The Dantoni train is coming, better get on board or get off the track! "

We are so much better off it's not even worth rehashing why we joined in the first place. I just don't even know where to start. Did you forget the following...

CUSA was a Texas centric conference. Judy didn't even come to Huntington when we won a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in Soccer!
CUSA was always reactive instead of proactive.
CUSA held their basketball tourney in Texas with a curtain EVERY YEAR.
CUSA was full of teams we had no connection with. Fan apathy was setting in.
We were losing fans because of the matchups.
We were in a quagmire of whatever is best for the Texas schools.
CUSA now stretches from Virginia to New Mexico 01-wingedeagle Horrible situation for student athletes.
CUSA media was and still is a freaking joke.
We played our games on Facebook for crying out loud. We were absent from everyone's mind by not ever being on ESPN.
WKU was never a rival, I don't care what the younger fans say.
In CUSA we had SIX teams that were over 1000 miles away. In the SBC we only have ONE team over 1000 miles away.
Facebook games were getting 3k views while ESPN+ games are getting 300k to 400k views.

And it doesn't matter about the NCAA transition. Being a G5 seals our fate no matter what conference we are in.

Don't get me wrong CUSA had problems. Admin was horrific. My concern is if we have to make a jump to another conference
in short order it may be more difficult since we just entered the SB. I can see App St. getting an invite to AAC, then after the P5
split we are stuck back in the new FCS with the other G5's. Let's face it without App St. No one else in the SB is really consistent as
Marshall. I'm not sure CC will rebound after they lose some players, ULL might, not be convinced of anything when it comes to JMU.
As of right now App and us are the two most consistant teams in the SB. Altrhough, Troy may be trying to make a name.

I'm not worried about that at all. The AAC likes big city schools with markets. In the SBC that is GaState and ODU. In CUSA that's UTEP and MTSU. Keep in mind, the AAC will have 14 schools, which means if Memphis and SMU leave they can stand pat at 12. If they decide to replace those schools it will be GaState, ODU, MTSU or UTEP. If the SBC loses GaState and or ODU we immediately become a stronger conference by staying at 12. But it could take 5 to 10 years for all of that to happen. If we stayed in the CUSA for 5 to 10 more years we would bury our sports, especially football. Staying any longer is fiscally irresponsible at the very least. Would you rather be in CUSA without UTEP and MTSU or in the SBC without GaState and ODU? Also, if there is a P5 split, the AAC will stay back with the rest of the G5's (P5 schools don't want to share any more money than they have to). Next year the AAC will be one of the worst football conferences in the country.

On a side note, if Memphis and SMU leave the AAC there's a chance Navy will go independent. Remember the AAC is now a Texas centric conference with their HQ also in Texas. If or when they expand it will more than likely be out West (Texas State and UTEP) which could leave ECU to join the SBC (i know it's a long shot, but that carrot is dangling there).

Oh and I apologize if I sounded harsh in earlier responses. That was not the intent.

RE: To quote another poster on another forum: - THUNDERStruck73 - 12-07-2022 10:09 AM

Let me shout this once and for all from the cheap seats: WE ARE NOT GETTING INTO THE AAC! EVER!

RE: To quote another poster on another forum: - THUNDERStruck73 - 12-07-2022 10:11 AM

And moving to the SBC was hands down the best option. More money, better conference, regional rivalries, pumped life into an apathetic and dying fan base.

I assure you, we're not sad about not playing Marshall JUCO.

Yeah, that's because the last time we played you got boat raced out of the stadium. Call us up. We'll pluck your feathers again. And that's a pretty high and mighty statement coming from a school that got booted from a P5 conference because they were too pathetic in athletics. 03-lmfao

03-lmfao

And yet the BE and AAC didn't want Marshall 03-lmfao

The AAC is just CUSA dude. You now share a conference with all the dead weight that we had been trying to leave for the past 10 years. Charlotte, FAU, UNT, Rice and what were the other ones? 01-wingedeagle UAB was a decent add, but the rest are losers in football and basketball. UTSA will go back to the cellar once their coach gets hired away. The AAC is on life support, you think those teams added create any value for you? You are now in what we just left... a Texas centric conference where ALL THE MONEY is in the western division... ALL OF IT!. You think they give two creamy shitz about the eastern schools? 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao You're in for a rude awakening. Now go back to the ESPN Bottom 10 where you belong. 03-lmfao

ECU fans are already wanting to join the SBC. They openly admit it on the AAC board.

FOURTEEN PAGES of buyers remorse LOL

That's right. We aren't a fit institutionally. We have a small enrollment in a small city. That is what held us out. We are okay with it and quite frankly, after UC, UCF, and UH leave, other than ECU and Navy, we are perfectly happy in the SBC. So enjoy your annual game against Charlotte and FAU...hahaha.. Well, you probably won't enjoy them because they will most likely beat you. 03-lmfao

And as if your suckage in football wasn't enough... Sun Belt teams ahead of Temple (#157) in MBB NET:

Old Dominion - 155
South Alabama - 128
Troy - 113
Louisiana - 93
James Madison - 44
MARSHALL - 41
Southern Mississippi - 27

Half of our league is better than you. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! Wait, I know how to help you. Go resurrect John Chaney from whatever rock he is living under, and re-hire him as coach to recruit about 4-5 goons to put on the bench to send into games and injure opposing players.

You should probably just stop responding and slink back the the AAC board where you and your Temple teams can continue to ride the coattails of the men in the conference.
