Actually I am, I saw those offers and thought he'd be elsewhere. I can see him wanting to stay in the same system and be in the spotlight, also wondered if Lewis felt he bailed on the team at the end of the season. Oh well, good luck to him, next man up!

PS: When will the school put anything out? Peewee football leagues get more media coverage than us; no local beat writers, no press releases from the school, just the 12 dozen folks here interested in finding out about things. 03-phew

I see his last tweet was the Colorado offered. I didn't see a report that he decided though.

Pretty wild that Georgia and Oklahoma both offered him. So basically we go and play the money games and if anyone plays well then they go 'Hey remember that name when it's portal season.'. I guess that can be a recruiting advantage to us...

He hasn't committed. I just can't believe he isn't going to follow Lewis.

A brilliant idea. Tell a potential recruit, "Hey, we know that P5 schools haven't been interested in you but come here and we'll audition you in front of three big-time P5 teams each year so you'll have a second chance!"

RE: Football Offseason - Polish Hammer - 12-08-2022 04:01 PM

In the past few years guys started sitting out bowl games so they didn’t get hurt going into the draft. Now if you’re doing well you start getting feelers from 3rd parties, next thing you know you got aches and pains that shut down your season only to get rejuvenated when you announce you’re in the portal and those putting out those feelers start offering. Just trying to figure out if we’re the AA or AAA feeding the majors when they need a call-up.

Yes. No idea how serious Cephas' injury was. But based on the fact he's getting offers from the best of the best you gotta wonder if he was contacted through some back channels to make sure he knew his stock was sky high and don't mess it up.

Most definitely. Certainly no Ronnie Lotts or Willis Reeds left out there…

It was clear in the text. I loved it. ......... I wonder if a point will ever come where large numbers of fans will just give up? It's not as if college sports are as popular as some believe. The NFL is the only sport that gets huge ratings. The college football championship game between Georgia and Alabama was only the 15th most watched sporting event in the first six months of 2022. The top 14 were all NFL games. The NCAA basketball semi-finals and final were only 23rd and 24th.

Time to end this fantasy of hoping KSU football is relevant at the D1 level.

Reclassifying to Division II or III may be something to seriously to consider.

The unrealistic dream of competing with the big schools would go away.

Would not have all of this portal drama.

The majority of players would be playing for the joy of the game, not for dreams of playing in the NFL. And would probably hang around for four years & graduate.

I don't think I would really care if KSU would be playing DIII schools like Mt. Union, Baldwin Wallace, College of Wooster, etc. as opposed to suffering beat-downs from the likes of the P5 schools.

Attendance would not be impacted that much. It's not that great as it is. The marketing & publicity is mediocre anyway & would not see that changing.

Granted, revenue generated from scheduling the big-money games would go away, but maybe the money saved by the reclassification would offset this.

The other sports would remain D1.

Other institutions have this model & it works for them.

Need to face reality in these times. KSU cannot compete in D1 football.

You’re right, even bowl games no longer matter, fans quit traveling, players opt out of games, if you’re not in the playoff it doesn’t matter. MACtion midweek games killed what little interest anyone outside of the local commute had to watch competitive games after we get demolished in the payday games.

One tiny flaw in your plan, in order to be D1 basketball you need to be D1 in football. BTW, maybe we won’t play for the national championship, but we certainly can compete in D1 football. 03-shhhh

Right. That was the "Dayton rule". If you are DI in basketball you have to be either FBS or FCS in football (formerly DIA and DIAA).

RE: Football Offseason - axeme - 12-08-2022 05:46 PM

Dropping down a division doesn’t solve the portal issue. It just means your players will go to backfill rosters in G5 schools like the MAC. Then you can pick up some D-III players in the portal to take their place in FCS.

RE: Football Offseason - GFlash68 - 12-08-2022 06:59 PM

So Kent State can not compete in the D! arena. Heck, half of the D1s can not compete in that arena. Kent State did not look any worst than half of the conference sisters playing Georgia.

Does Fonzaga have a football team?

Right GFlash68. I've made that same point several times. Each P5 conference has more than a few teams that can't hope of competing for their conference title on anything resembling a consistent basis.

To me, achieving one MAC championship in 71 years is my measure of success & being competitive.

No, and neither does Gonzaga.

How is that accurate? I can name plenty of schools that don't have D1 football but do basketball. Hell, all of the Big East pretty much.
