The lady Dukes have a 1:00 tipoff against the Flames from Liberty tomorrow at the AUBC. The Dukes are coming off a hard fought game against #13 UNC this past Sunday. Hope to see a good crowd at the game tomorrow. Will be there ROOTIN as usual.

I rarely watch WBB. This is really bad basketball. Tough to watch. Does Coach O have any Offensive scheme?

Popped in for the 3rd quarter. Dukes ambling their way towards a win up 8 with one quarter to close out.

Under a minute to play up 3, Jefferson takes an 18 footer with 20 on the shot clock, brick, Neff bails her out with an acrobatic board and bucket.

Flames 3. Foul shots converted, Dukes limp to victory.

Shrug.

stats seem pretty evenly matched. We shot slightly better from 3 than they did, and much better FTs. Judging by the Q1 and halftime score, it was hard to watch basketball at the start.

I watched from home as I got sick last night. Other than the 1st quarter I thought it was a decent showing, but both teams looked awful to start with. We got better and they kind of stayed the same, and mostly not as dirty as they have been in the past. Claire seems to have found her 3 point range at last, and Kiki was her usual self even though they were really keying in on her. I like that we're looking more versatile with more players off the bench. I don't know if the foul trouble (Rowe and Kozlova) is real or if the refs were just calling fouls on them because they were the biggest players on the floor, in which case they should have called a few more on Bella Smuda. Hazell has matured a lot between last year and this, and I continue to be impressed with Williams. Sterling is going to be a very good PG.

Well, it’s good to know someone is impressed by Hazell. She’s an out-of-control gunner from where I sit. Once the ball gets into her hands it’s not likely to leave her possession until she’s pumped up some out of control shot.

I suppose the positive of Hazell’s play tempers the “stand around and watch Kiki” conundrum, but it would be really nice if this team learned to execute some legit offensive plays instead of the playground oriented, one-on-one scramble.

Happy that JMU escaped with the win today. Heading into the 4th I was half-expecting the wheels to come off, and the team fumble away the victory ala the Maine game.

Missed the game but those shooting stats…oof.

Watched only a small portion of the game, but way too many of our 3's never had a chance to go through the basket. It wasn't something to make me proud.

I didn't say I was impressed by Hazell, I said she has matured from last year, which is not the same thing. She still has a ways to go. The player I am impressed by is Williams, who does a lot of things pretty well, especially on the defensive end. Someone's reading comprehension needs work.

Way to spilt hairs. I guess to date you weren’t truly “impressed” by Hazell’s growth in her maturity, so she’ll just have to grow some more before she can really impress you. 03-lmfao

I didn’t think Hazell and Jefferson were players that worked particularly well together last year and my opinion hasn’t changed much. I actually thought Hazell would be better off transferring as our system seems to focus on one player so much ( and has during most of Sean’s tenure).

I can agree with that observation. Then again, JMU experienced so much turmoil last season between injuries and a transfer loss of a starting player to Towson its hard to know what the heck was going on.

The team definitely needs a second dependable scorer to take the pressure off of Kiki, however, that second scorer needs to compliment Kiki, not try and to be the star and take over the game.

With the injury to the TCU transfer PG, Hazell has been asked to take a turn at PG, and that seems to be a very awkward fit not only for Hazell, but for Kiki and the team. Hazell is just not a good distributor.

RE: WBB vs Liberty 11/23/22 1PM ESPN+ - dukes13 - 11-26-2022 10:23 AM

I wouldn’t put that all on Hazell though. I think many players last year played for themselves - maybe it was the offensive “scheme” idk but it was not effective and if you look at the difference of the first half against UNC vs. the second half we had most of our assists in the beginning frames. Passing got a lot less and we went back to trying to isolate players and get 1 on 1 matchups. Kiki is the only player on our team that really has business doing that but even she has been passing well.

I’m interested to see what Kobe King brings to our team second semester. It seems like Neff and Peyton are settling in. Any time table on Goodman? She will add some talented depth to our post.

The verdict for me is still out on this team - not sure if the UNC game was a fluke or not. I said under 10 would be a win but damn, we really should’ve won that game. Glad to see us beat the Flames.

Hazell is definitely NOT a PG and is only an emergency one as apparently Coach is wanting Sterling to grow into the role. He was obviously hoping to use her as a backup to Germond this year and Germond's injury has sped up the process more than a little. Sterling is going to be very good but she is young yet and has a ways to go. She quite obviously idolizes Rori Harmon of Texas, right down to the hairdo, who IMO is not a bad role model. And my guess is that if Sterling is 5'7, it's with the hair LOL
