16:58 to go in 1st

NIU - 0
GT - 7

Way too many turnovers...even this early. And no made shots. Defense hasn't been all that bad actually.

RE: MBB at Georgia Tech - Big Red - 11-17-2022 08:14 PM

14:22 to play in 1st

NIU - 5
GT - 11

Honestly, our D is keeping this "close". We seem overwhelmed with the bigger team on offense and this team (GT) isn't particularly big other than one guy.

We have to finish and stop turning over the ball. But the pressure D is having its effects on GT. We'll see if that lasts.

Also, Nutter has all 5 points at this point. He hasn't looked great but he's a high energy worker.

11:36 to play in 1st

NIU - 8

We look scared right now. Coit missing from everywhere he takes a shot. From 3 to layups. Struggling from the line.

We're shooting 18%....

18%

If we were 40%, we'd probably be tied.

0 for 6 from behind the arc.

Rebounding is fine, defense is good. But this team is bigger and stronger and more athletic and it shows. We look like we're in over our heads in most aspects but the press, but then if any breakdown happens, they dunk it.

I have a fun game, lets see how many bunnies we can miss.

RE: MBB at Georgia Tech - HuskieDave - 11-17-2022 08:27 PM

We are like a non-stop turnover machine.

And guys are just jacking up ridiculous shots that they have little, or no, chance of making.

At times, it looks like guys are literally throwing the ball at the basket.

Not good.

RE: MBB at Georgia Tech - Big Red - 11-17-2022 08:29 PM

8:36 to play in 1st

NIU - 8
GT - 28

Our newcomers are getting a lesson on college basketball right now. Also, 2nd straight slow start for Williams. He has 2 points and is 1 for 4.

RE: MBB at Georgia Tech - Big Red - 11-17-2022 08:33 PM

7:16 to play in 1st

Same score.

We're now shooting 14% from the field (0 for 7 from 3PT) and 2 for 5 FT.

Comparison:

GT is shooting 46% from the field (4 for 8 3PT) and they haven't taken a FT yet.

I have never been as frustrated to be an NIU Huskies fan. We just don’t compete against the big boys on a regular basis…in any sport

RE: MBB at Georgia Tech - McG - 11-17-2022 08:48 PM

This first half has been brutal. Not sure how much Coit can be on the floor, the guy he’s mismatched defensively against every team.

RE: MBB at Georgia Tech - Big Red - 11-17-2022 08:50 PM

1:00 to play in the half

NIU - 15
GT - 41

RE: MBB at Georgia Tech - CollegeMan33 - 11-17-2022 08:59 PM

Burno is exactly like Bobby Hurley as a coach if he has the better players he’s a good coach. It’s NBA one on one and that’s not good because our players aren’t that good. It seems like Monty over coached every play and Burno doesn’t coach. 3 man weave is our no.1 offensive play(lol). Oh well it’s early in this game and early in the season and early in coach Burno’s career here.

RE: MBB at Georgia Tech - Big Red - 11-17-2022 09:00 PM

Halftime

Honestly...it probably should be worse...

Thornton - 3 (1-2; 1-1 3PT)

We're going to be mismatched whoever is on the floor.

We actually have decent guards but too many of them are tiny. Williams is apparently 6'3" but there's no way I believe that. Coit is 5'11". Russell is 6'. Thornton is 6'.

Both Youngblood (6'2") and Plintauskas (6'4") have better size but we can't rely on them tonight. Youngblood played a few minutes and looked overwhelmed. Although he did have a nice block on a guy bigger than him.

Youngblood intrigues me but he's going to need development and time to develop. I'm higher on Plintauskas but he's going to have to develop as well.

I've never put much hope into this season for them. We aren't losing much (if everyone who can stay stays...) as it's only Thornton and Hunter iirc. So, if Burno can keep them in the system, this team should develop together. He MUST add size in the offseason. I think he can add 3 players and he already has a 6'6" swing guard committed but he needs to land at least one big. I think he can focus on the post this year as we have a lot of guards in the system for a few years.
