UT vs Oakland game thread - Screwball - 11-16-2022 07:20 PM

I don't see one, so why not.

Looking good so far

Good to see AJ doing more. Looks more comfortable.

Huge lead early and kind of sleepwalking now. Little too much fouling and getting sloppy with the ball. Halftime coming at a good time to refocus on defense.

Rockets really cooking in the mid range game.

Toledo shot 76% from the field in the 1st half. Holy Toledo. That's got to be some kind of record.

RE: UT vs Oakland game thread - Screwball - 11-16-2022 07:56 PM

Milner and Shumate have been on fire. Agree, they got a bit sloppy. I'm sure coach will address this at halftime. Great to see the bench chip in. This is new, and I think it will pay off down the road.

Just hope it doesn't even out to 48% for the game. Kind of looked like Kampe was just sitting back near the end of the half with a smirk on his face as if to say, how do you stop this? I have a feeling they make a run in the 2nd half. The second half could tell a lot about the Rockets for this year. Can't replicate the shooting of the first half (more than likely) but they can ramp up the defense. Have a lot of guys that can come off the bench and all can contribute.

Best bench since K has been at Toledo?

I noticed that too. It was like; this is a bad dream.

Best bench? I don't think there is any argument at this point.

Defense not good coming out of the break. Too many layups.

Matador defense. No clue what’s going on but hasn’t been good.

RE: UT vs Oakland game thread - Screwball - 11-16-2022 08:34 PM

Yea, they need to pick it up a bit. Too easy for Oakland.

RE: UT vs Oakland game thread - Screwball - 11-16-2022 08:48 PM

Use some clock FFS

UT vs Oakland game thread - adunifon - 11-16-2022 08:49 PM

Nice to win comfortably when you don’t play your best. Offense was good. Defense bad. Got too fancy at times too.

RE: UT vs Oakland game thread - DetroitRocket - 11-16-2022 08:58 PM

Shumate has to be able to play pro ball somewhere.

I was worried about this one after that big win over UAB. This is a good team. Don't get cocky.

Only 3 games in, they have plenty of room to grow and get better. This could be special.

Adding on edit; it drove me nuts when Oakland was within maybe 12, with plenty of time to make it interesting, and they go down and chuck up a shot when they don't need to.

Seems like there is so much offensive talent that they get a little too fancy at times. Fun group to watch, though.

I was surprised they went to the hoop late in the game when it almost looked like running the score up. Watching Coach K and Campe after the game, they seemed OK with it.

Coach said in comments with Brent and Jay something along the lines of "if we move and share the ball, nobody can guard us"

I'm good with that plan. I remember back in high school, us wrong side of the tracks guys played our BB team in gym class. We played Harlem Globetrotters and threw the ball around until we had an easy bucket. We put a whoopin' on 'em, and they didn't like it.

I really like this team.

the Rockets torched the Oakland zone, 63% from the field, 53% from the arc, but only got to the stripe 15 times and only knocked down 8. My favorite stat - 29 assists and only 9 turnovers! The game looked sloppier than that but the Rockets thrived on excellent ball movement to find the open shooters. And when the game got sloppy RayJ took control and settled down the offense. As TK has said repeatedly RayJ has a great feel for the game.

This was a nice win against a respectable team that has skill but lacks size and is still looking for their formula for success.

Was Oakland even playing much zone? Watched the whole game and it seemed like they were in man more, but then again their d was so bad I could have missed ir.

Some stats from tonight's great offensive performance:

Shumate with 33 points

Millner with 21 points and 8 rebounds

Maddox with 20 points

Dennis with 17 points, 12 assists, and only 1 turnover

Cochran with 9 points and 10 rebounds

Edu with 8 rebounds to go along with 4 points

28 assists and only 9 turnovers

33 bench points

Those are some nice stats!

Oakland played 1-3-1 much of second half, unreal shooting, wish he would have played bench more in second half, big blonde, Edu need more second half min. Going to need them... develop now pays dividends later
