This is My Perception of Most Happy to Least Happy Fan Bases to be in New CUSA - sstaedtler88 - 11-16-2022 01:00 PM

Listed most happy to least happy:

1. New Mexico State 04-cheers
2. Sam Houston State
3. Jacksonville State
4. Middle Tennessee
5. Liberty
6. UTEP
7. Kennesaw State
8. FIU
9. Louisiana Tech
10. Western Kentucky 03-banghead

Obviously, there are exceptions. Still see a ton of WKU fans wanted to leave for the MAC, which I do not get at all. La. Tech fans seemed to be pretty critical of TV deal. New Mexico State was ecstatic just to be in a conference and one with UTEP.

I’m sorry, but I agree that WKU and La. Tech are the least happy fan bases on this message board. I would also agree that Liberty falls in the middle. I am happy to be here.

I'm a Liberty fan and I am also happy to be in CUSA. Would I like a conference with more close geographic rivals? Sure. But you can't get everything you want in life and being in a conference beats the heck out of not being in one. I do know some Liberty fans wanted to stay Independent, but I don't that was feasible.

That's likely a good perception list but, WKu has two specific posters here who are loud and voice their angst on this board often but there are several of us who are either happy with the future prospects of CUSA or at worst are in a wait and see mode. The two loud guys drown out the rest of us.

Your probably right about that. I think on WKU's forums a while ago, many posters hated CUSA. When the new TV deal was struck, I have seen some WKU posters that liked it or thought it was an improvement. But there are a few WKU posters that are adamant about slamming anything and everything when it comes to CUSA, without even looking into it. They are more vocal than anyone against CUSA and Judy.

I think fans of the 5 new additions are all in the "just happy to be here" frame of mind. As a Kennesaw State grad, I'm still sort of in disbelief that my once little school is now going to be playing FBS football in a conference that's been around for a long time. I'm sure the Sam and JSU people feel the same. Then you have NMSU that has been looking for a conference home forever than now has its wish. Liberty finally has an FBS family and can quit wandering in the wilderness of independence, which is no longer where any school wants to be.

As for the 5 veterans of CUSA, some are holding their noses and are trying to make the best of it, and others seem to be dying for an invitation to absolutely anywhere else..lol..

But, as a KSU guy, I'm thrilled to be in a conference with UTEP, who owns a National Championship in MBB, NMSU, who has a traditionally strong MBB program, along with WKU, MTSU, and La Tech who I have been watching on early fall Saturdays forever in SEC and ACC matchups..I think in 5 years the veteran group will be pleased with the strength the newcomers will add to the conference..

The reason I didn't put KSU higher is I couldn't find a lot of posts on their forums and some KSU fans were concerned about cost and raising student fees and whether KSU was ready. The weird thing for me is MTSU fans have mostly been very pro CUSA since the start, unlike many of the other holdovers from its previous version. A lot of their fans want to get rid of their football coach, but they have been overwhelmingly positive about CUSA, at least from my perspective.

While you give props for the minors natty (rightfully so) and threw in the NMSU MBB tradition, how about a little love for our final four? 04-cheers

OP has based his post on a small sample size of WKU fans! WKU tenth on this list is INCORRECT. I agree with Apollo.

I am OK with C-USA-- totally. Some that post here more often have skewed your opinion!

The MAC would be a mistake for us Hilltoppers!

Still tired of Judy and what has been a Texas-centric attitude in the past. So it's not perfect-- but I can live with it.

This league has great potential in Basketball, Baseball, and FOOTBALL.

IMO we need to be VERY, VERY careful with who we add or just stay at ten for a LONG, LONG time.

Just adding to have "numbers" is FOOLISH.

I am satisfied with C-USA. Scale of 1-10 (10 perfect)-- I would say a 7.5- 8.5 depending on current news.

The Sam fans in my family are not happy they are moving to FBS.

I don't like the mid-week football games in the new TV contract that's my only hold up with new CUSA. Tuesday and Wednesday night games are bush league no matter what conference is playing them.

At least our deal is much shorter than the MAC's. They have these midweek games until 2031 I believe and started a lot earlier than we did. So I think we had to do this short-term, knowing it wasn't the goal long term. At least not a full month of games.

I think CUSA now has a "survival minimum" .Even if all hell breaks loose and the MWC raided the western schools we would still have 8. I do think it would be smart to have ongoing conversations with any schools that would be considered the few FCS prizes left..IE..Missouri State, Chattanooga, along with SFA and Tarleton. In the future if the footprint holds, a couple of western additions and divisions would probably help with Olympic Sport travel expenses.

We're trying to come to grips with the fact we will now never win another national championship in football. I personally am happy. I think most fans are coming around to it with time. By next season we'll be fully on board. Just trying to deal with our atrocious offense before we play any football games that matter next season.

This is where I am at currently. I'm ready for this season to be over and move onto the next one where our games count. This has been the longest 9 game season in the history of college football it feels like for Sam Houston fans and the horrid offense that ranks at the bottom of the FCS is making us want to just push the fast forward button at this point. Everything after the battle of the piney woods with SFA has made us just want to get on with this season and find a new OC, QB, and OL to build towards next season in FBS. I think this C USA 4.0 will eventually be a really good conference thanks to the addition of Liberty and obviously I hope Sam Houston rises to the occasion like previous FCS powerhouses have been able to like App St, Marshall, and Georgia Southern (not as much as the other two).

It is better to be in CUSA than Independent.

I agree that the Sam Houston fan base is very split on the FBS move. It’s going to take an effort to win them over and that’s seeing success plus facility enhancements.

The program fans have said they don’t want to be a Texas State which has failed miserably on field during their run in FBS

I think Sam Houston fans are split, but online, they have a large presence that mostly seems to be very pro-CUSA. A lot of interaction with other CUSA team posters. I think in the beginning there was some trepidation but as time has gone on they have become more and more excited.
