Kent State vs. Arkansas Pine Bluff - fallsdog - 11-15-2022 08:53 AM

Who is up for a Wednesday basketball matinee? The Kent State Golden Flashes and the Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions will tip things off at noon for a rare mid-week, mid-day affair at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. This will be the stiffest test for KSU so far this season. Pine Bluff comes in at 1-3...BUT....The losses have been:

TCU 73
Pine Bluff 72

Oklahoma 66
Pine Bluff 58

Mississippi 80
Pine Bluff 47

I imagine that the Golden Lions will not be intimidated by the high noon atmosphere in Kent. The leading scorer for Pine Bluff is Shaun Doss. The 6'5 185 pound grad student averages 19 points per night. Next up is 6'4 sophomore Kylen Milton who averages about 12 points a game. The leading rebounder is 6'8 230 pound Oral Roberts transfer Ismael Plet. He has grabbed double digit boards in two of their first four games.

Overall Pine Bluff doesn't seem to have a ton of size on the roster, but they do play plenty of 6'4/6'5 type guards. It should be a battle. May I suggest a burger and a beer at Ray's followed by some Kent State Hoops!

Go Flashes!

He averages 19/night. How many does he average per afternoon?

Inmates? Did you drop in on an Akron practice?

No No. Spiritual Advisor at the Grafton Prison. Much more level headed crowd here.

It probably isn't at all significant, as the teams are about the same strength this year, but they lost to the Mississippi State Bulldogs, not the Mississippi Rebels.

As I said about the Portland game, we don't want a repeat of Southern from last year.

RE: Kent State vs. Arkansas Pine Bluff - fallsdog - 11-15-2022 12:14 PM

I think Pine Bluff is better than Southern from a year ago. But I do agree. At full strength (presumably) against a mid major who has not matched KSU's success of the past two decades AT HOME.....should be a KSU KO!

Pine-Bluff KenPom is 355. If we lose, we really f'd up.

And 352 last year.

There is a video link up in the app to start at five before the hour.

So 21-23 from the foul line in first half is pretty good....

RE: Kent State vs. Arkansas Pine Bluff - thanksjim - 11-16-2022 01:59 PM

46 total fouls with over 5 minutes left and 6 technicals. SOunds like a terrible game to watch

Looks like the High Noon atmosphere got to them. 94-68 Final

It was terrible to watch.

In Kent's 3 D1 games they have been whistled for (in order) 22, 24 and 21 fouls.

In my mind I think 7 fouls per half should be the norm up to the final 3 minutes when foul strategy comes more into play. But since Kent is winning, that is not an issue.

So they probably need to cut back on 2-3 fouls per half and 4-6 fouls per game. For a team that plays as physically as Kent traditionally does, averaging about 17-fouls per game should not be alarming.

Therefore, they do need to get a handle on it ... but not lose their edge.

RE: Kent State vs. Arkansas Pine Bluff - Older and Older - 11-16-2022 06:06 PM

Officiating last 2 games has been putrid
Monday 47 total fouls , 8 technicals.
Today 51 total fouls , 3 technicals

One good official , the other two clueless

Ref’s need to be better before someone gets hurt

RE: Kent State vs. Arkansas Pine Bluff - anti-zip - 11-16-2022 06:36 PM

Aggressive defense doesn't explain the high foul numbers today. Carry and Jacobs are both extremely aggressive on defense and while they both did have 4 fouls I think at most 3 of their total 8 fouls were defensive fouls. Today the block/charge was not a 50/50 call it was a 95/5 call in favor of the charge.

Thought I had during the game today. I never remember this many Ohio guys on our team. 7 of the 16 players are from Ohio. 9 if you count Santiago and Carry who played HS in OH but aren't originally from here. Then next year our two recruits are from Ohio too.
