30.5 point dogs...biggest upset according to spread ever.

When did they start playing quarters?

That's why I thought it was a women's game.?

I had the same initial reaction but read somewhere that Pomeroy breaks it down like that to aid in analysis. Stuff like this I guess:

All this raises a question I've always pondered. Why are the NCAA men the only group that play halves instead of quarters? Also curious why women's NCAA basketball plays quarters and men play halves. I actually kind of like the game being segmented by quarters and I'm guessing if the men played quarters they might eliminate two of those media timeouts which often interrupt the flow of the game.

You answered your own question. You would have to reduce your media timeouts by 4 to make things work with the timing of quarters and youd have to reduce coaches TOs too. Plus, it doesn't really benefit the men's game enough to break tradition, even if that tradition is weird as hell.

UCF giving Houston a scare with 16 minutes left. Down 42-40.

RE: 2022-23 College Basketball General Thread - The Big O - 12-31-2022 04:23 PM

Houston hangs on 71-65.

Only 24 teams in the entire country would be projected to go .500 or better in the Big 12. That is just a bonkers stat.

Flash back to old big east where 9-9 in conference could get you a 6 seed lol

It's very possible that UC and UCF could battle it out to see who finishes in last place in the Big 12 next year.

Disappointed in our program's current trajectory but it could be worse...Louisville and now Georgetown. Pat Ewing has now managed to lose 25 consecutive Big East games surpassing DePaul's previous streak. Ewing is 11-36 overall since last season and 73-95 overall during his career leading the Hoyas. This dude has to be on the hot seat...

He would have been fired 2 years ago if his jersey wasn’t in the rafters and the schools’ only ring wasn’t on his finger.

He’s been just downright awful.

I think the only reason he wasn't fired 2 years ago was his team won 8 of its last 10 Big East games (both losses to UConn), including 4 games in 4 days to win the Big East tournament (where they beat Villanova the 1 seed and Creighton the 2 seed). Other than that 10 game stretch, his run at Georgetown has been a disaster.

Go find a Georgetown message board and read it if you have time. Their fans are really frustrated but there is still a significant segment that doesn't want to fire Pat because off all he did for the university as a player. It's a strange situation.

How crazy is the B12? Of the top 10 toughest remaining schedules in all of college basketball the 10 B12 teams have spots 1-10 locked up.

Baylor is very good. West Virginia is a good squad. Those two teams play on Wednesday to see which team starts conference play in last place at 0-4.

You're right about that. I saw an early bracket projection that had every B12 team in March Madness! With the accompanying disclaimer of course that once they all start playing the round robin in conference some will fall.

I believe the quality, top to bottom, in the B12 is historic. Even in the best years of UC's Big East membership, there were always horrible DePaul teams occupying the cellar. And really, it's been a long time now since St. John's, Butler, and even Georgetown have really been contenders.

In their last 75 games UK’s record is 45-30 with no tournament wins. Yikes.

Calipari lost his advantage when everyone was allowed to pay their players.

Might be the reason he's rumored to be interested in Texas.
