I'd have Matt Painter, Tony bennett, and Chris Beard as the early favorites for coach of the year.

Miller the early front runner for coach of the year

Dirt bag but the Good Miller.

So losing another close game to a ranked team makes him coach of the year? They are 4-3. Getting close to beating IU, Duke, and Gonzaga doesn’t equal successfully coaching.

Depends on where you sit. We sorta stink, so yeah...

We've got a few games yet before the Sweaty X Coach. We better win those first...

Not sure i follow this logic. Miller inherited a really talented Xavier team. He's lost to every team with a pulse unless you really like the win over a Florida team huggs just beat by 30. Why would your reference for his coaching have anything to do with uc?

Just what I said.

He's a dirt bag and a better coach right now who's actually done it at this level.

Nobody was making the comparison. The point was the idea that Sean Miller is coach of the year right now is outlandish.

Sorry. Didn't know there was a syllabus.

Even if X had won that tourney instead of losing a couple of close games, I'd have to reserve judgment on Sean Miller. College basketball's high flyers in November often limp into February and March after peaking too early. I do think Sean Miller is a pretty good X's and O's guy based upon his track record, but then there's the AZ thing.

Alternately, Kelvin Sampson seems to have dropped his past baggage for a successful resurrection at Houston. But then again, I don't think Kelvin's infractions at Indiana come close to what Miller's staff was accused of at Arizona. It's an interesting sideshow on Victory Parkway but we've got our own rebuilding challenges that remain top of mind for me.

Purdue's been the most impressive team I've seen this year.

Having a 7'4 guy that can dominate the paint and make FTs just isn't fair.

Yea. They've been excellent. I'd add Arizona, Virginia, Texas and Houston with Purdue for most impressive so far.

Edey is incredible. His Player Efficiency Rating is over 40. For reference, 15 is slightly above average, 22 is an all-star, and the best season in NBA history was Wilt Chamberlin with 32.08 in 1961-62.

But don't overlook the rest of the Purdue roster. Against Duke, Purdue was actually slightly better when Edey was on the bench. He was in a 3-way tie for 3rd on his team in box plus/minus that game.

DaVille remains winless at 0-7 and Florida St lost again to now 1-8. Dayum.

I'm eager to see the Purdue - IU games.

Given the choice between Edey and Trayce Jackson-Davis I think I'm taking TJD. He's big, quick and has a lot of experience. I don't think Edey can move like him.

IU won at X and whipped up on UNC pretty good last night. Is UNC overrated? Probably. But everybody seems to be latching on to Purdue and they may not even be the best team in their state.

Huggs seems to have destroyed it in the transfer portal this offseason and righted the ship for WVU (they weren't as bad as their record last year. The big 12 was just brutal and they lost like 15 Q1 games). They still finished 66 kenpom.

WVU is 25 kenpom now. I know we were going after Toussaint...had we been able to land him instead of Phinisee it would have been enormous for our team. He can't shoot 3s but is doing everything else you want from a PG (High assist rate/low turnovers, getting to the foul line, making free throws).

Oh well. Hope he smacks Xavier on their home court.

Phinisee apparently broke his foot. Two rotation guys now out for the year (or close to it).

This reminds me of the bad luck Mick had when he started here. From a strategy standpoint do you get CJ Anthony prepared to play or move DDJ to point for half the game. More Skillings and Reed?

I hope it's the latter
