Quote:The American Bowl Lineup
American Athletic Conference teams are guaranteed at least seven bowl
appearances annually as part of the conference’s new postseason lineup,
which began in the 2020 season and is in place through 2025..
The American, as it has done five times in the first seven years of the current bowl cycle, will continue to send its champion to a New Year’s Six bowl
if that team finishes higher than the champions of four other conferences
in the final College Football Playoff rankings. American Athletic Conference
teams are also eligible for the College Football Playoff if they are among the
top four teams in the final CFP rankings.
As part of the current bowl cycle, The American will annually send teams to
the Military Bowl presented by Peraton against an Atlantic Coast Conference
opponent, the Fenway Bowl in Boston, also against an ACC team, and a third
annual spot which will alternate between the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces
Bowl and the SoFi Hawaii Bowl. The 2022 season will include the Radiance
Technologies Independence Bowl among The American’s guaranteed spots.
Additionally, The American will annually have regular appearances from a
group of eight bowls. The American extended its existing partnerships with
the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl, the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla
Bowl, the RoofClaim Boca Raton Bowl, the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl
and the Duluth Trading Cure Bowl.
New to The American’s lineup in the current cycle are the SERVPRO First
Responder Bowl, the New Mexico Bowl and the Myrtle Beach Bowl

First 4:

Military, Armed Forces, Fenway, Independence

Next 3:

Birmingham, Gasparilla, First Responder, Boca Raton, Frisco, Cure, Myrtle Beach, New Mexico

If I read this correctly,

NY6 would get 1st pick should we have a qualifier.

Who gets the top pick(aka what is the pecking order) of the 4 main bids?

Is there a pecking order for the Next 3 bids?

RE: AAC Bowls 2022 - space orange - 11-05-2022 08:12 PM

There's technically no pecking order for any of these once the NY6 bowl takes a team if the AAC champ takes the bid. It's basically just the conference, teams, and bowls working to find the best matchups and geography. Generally will give the best teams the P5 matchups and then the remaining it's just working together, usually with geography in mind.

For UCF for instance, when we don't go to a NY6 bowl we've been to the Gasparilla bowl 3 times, cure bowl once, and Boca Raton bowl once. All Florida bowls.

Isn't someone considered the premier bowl for us and would angle for the next best team? I get they shop around schools for matchups but...

The AAC might only finish with 5-6 bowl eligible teams, thus not filling our seven slots.

RE: AAC Bowls 2022 - panicstricken - 11-06-2022 08:59 AM

Northern Kentucky is going to Myrtle.

We have 4 currently. SMU will make 5 after the usf game this weekend. Houston needs 1 of Temple, ECU, Tulsa to get eligible, so that's probably 6 no problem. But ya. That 7th is dicey. Memphis needs 2 of Tulsa, North Alabama, and SMU. If they beat Tulsa, they probably get to 6 before SMU and that is all 7. If they don't, we probably only have 6 bowl teams this year.

Well, we beat Tulsa, so we have 7 going bowling.

I'm only upset that I called Tulsa to have a big 5 win season all along. Not happening, apparently. Water finds its level. I'll try to be better.

Yes, with the Memphis win over Tulsa, it is now almost a sure thing the AAC will have 7 bowl eligible teams and fill all our slots. My fears turned out to be unfounded.

2nd or 3rd in the AAC will earn you a no expense paid trip to ghost town Birmingham on a Tuesday afternoon 2 days after Christmas to play a bottom dwelling 6-6 P5 team that can't wait to be done so that they can get to the portal.

Yes, that's it. Though the Fenway Bowl matchup should be interesting. And freezing, LOL.

IMO, our bowl lineup has just been lousy the whole time, it didn't improve much at all in the last 2019-2020 cycle. It is just no good, nothing "P6" about it, IMO.

Still more fun than Tulsa will be having this holiday season.

Birmingham > Tulsa.

Well, USF certainly hasn't had to worry about the bowls that's for sure.
