Bars near the EMU arena (looking for suggestions) - Rogobob - 10-20-2022 02:42 PM

I am a fan of of a visiting basketball team looking to arrange a pre- or post-game gathering event at a Ypsilanti bar/restaurant. Any suggestions for a casual spot close to the EMU arena?

No bars are really within walking distance. But Ypsi is a small town. Two really close places, that I go to, are The Wurst (on Cross) and McShane's (address says Ellsworth, but really on Hewitt).

McShane's is my first pick as well and has plenty of parking. The Wurst and all the bars in Depot Town are great but due to one-way Cross St. can be tough to get to for out-of towners and parking is not simple either.

Don't know which direction you are coming from, but I am sure you are going to be on I-94 and exiting on Michigan Avenue. One mile east you can exit on Huron St and Buffalo Wild Wings is right there. Keeps you close to expressway so as not to get you lost.

Wurst Bar has tasty food and a nice beer lineup. Ypsi Alehouse is OK too.

Aubrees/Sticks in Depot Town is my go to. Also beer will be sold in the arena just so you know.

I think there may be a legal battle over it's permit in 2021.

Red Rock is renovating. Deja VU is suing the city and the city is suing dejavu. Cultivate closed because of a spat with the city as well. I am pretty disappointed in the city getting in the way of businesses doing business, there are a lot of empty space in the city and the city puts up too much red tape or wants too many bribes to get **** done.

From what I was told Cultivate closed for other reasons. Something about the financial backers. Their excuse that it has something to do with the city may be BS.

Not really close to the arena, but I really enjoy the Sidetrack Bar & Grill when I come up to Ypsilanti for games or work related …

My wife liked the Tower Inn. Too bad they closed. We will have to try Wurst.
