Friday Night Football - ICB - 10-08-2022 09:09 PM

How do my fellow Blazer fans feel about Friday Night College Football at home. I have noticed that the AAC consistently have a Friday night game on one of the ESPN networks. Out of 7 games scheduled for Friday, 7 different teams were the home team, leading me to believe that you only have to do it once per season, if at all. I personally don't mind if it's just one per season at most. HS football is HUGE here and I was curious if it even matters.

The only time I would want to see UAB playing on a Friday Night is if the game has a national appeal or it's an away game. Otherwise, UAB playing at home on a Friday is not going to look pretty attendance wise unless we're really really good and ranked.

I seem to recall seeing Friday night games on the current C-USA schedule.

The bottom line on this one: If we're scheduled to play a game on Friday night, it will because it's on ESPN. We will happily go play it, because we're getting much much more money from the AAC to play on ESPN.

Yes 03-yes

I have no kids or relatives playing HS football, so I can go to a game.Having a Friday game being the only game that night instead of Saturday will get some national exposure.

The game at WKU is a Friday night.

Then I am good with this.

BTW, good tickets ($25) available through the WKU ticket office for our game up there. Got mine in upper deck section 332, which is better seating than the corner of the endzone sideline section they send to UAB to sell.

Let me work on that... I might meet you over there :)

If we have a Friday home game and also continue opening the season on a Thursday, that makes it tougher on those of us that tailgate - either having to take 2 days off work to do a normal tailgate or skip a tailgate that you've paid for.

RE: Friday Night Football - DuelingDragon - 10-10-2022 08:05 PM

Tough for fans coming in from out of town too. UAB diehards include a fair amount of people who do this. But I think most would be fine with it if it isn’t frequent.

A game like this week would do better on a Thursday or Friday. I honestly don’t think it would matter if uab was 5-0 and ranked. Saturday head up against the biggest Alabama-Tennessee game in forever just isn’t getting a good crowd in Alabama. Same would be true for Troy, South Alabama, JSU and the rest.

We were planning to order through the UAB ticket office, but if there are other UAB fans in that section, I'll do that. Thanks for the heads up.

I was sitting behind a family from MTSU in our section (125) on Saturday; they had obviously bought someone's season tickets. Everyone was nice to them, but I couldn't help but think how uncomfortable that would be, especially if the game had gotten tense. They moved, I think because of the sun, but I suspect they ended up over in the corner of the end zone with their fellow Blue Raiders, instead of sitting at the 50 with us.

Something to be said for playing on these weekday games where you're the only game in town on tv. You get the exposure & in the voters minds otherwise on weekend games, you're lost in the shuffle

Not sure if anyone has noticed, but a nationally ranked Tulane last night and South Florida tonight have attendance issues... Putting this out there, so al.com enthusiast don't get unrealistic expectations for next season when UAB is on Thursday or Friday. Midweek games... Exposure > ...

Tulane and South Florida attendance issues would be fair comparisons, so the al.com person wouldn’t make that comparison.
