Notre Dame and Fickell - colohank - 09-10-2022 11:42 PM

Here's hoping that Marcus Freeman can turn ND around. The last thing we want is for the folks in South Bend to come sniffing around, yet again, for more UC coaching talent.

RE: Notre Dame and Fickell - bearcatfan - 09-11-2022 05:46 AM

I'm hoping they may be a bit gun shy about doing that considering Kelly's tenure and now Freeman's troubles.

They're not firing Freeman this year.
Relax.

This. As I posted in another thread, even if he is mediocre he will be there for 3-4 years. I still think he turns it around.

Jerry Faust
Bob Davie
Charlie Weiss
Marcus Freeman

Last 4 ND HC's without HC experience. How did they do?

And all 3 of them had 5 years to make it work. If Notre Dame gives him 3-5 years they likely missed their shot at Fickell. In the changing landscape an independent Notre Dame is playing for nothing each season.

Has anyone seen ND's QB's ??? And some of you clowns criticize Prater.

Tyler Buchner suuuuuuuuuucks. Dewn Pine suuuuuuuuucks even worse. Those guys are the offensive savant's fault.

Freeman was the D coordinator. Their D held O$U to 21. That's not the problem.

He has every right to say "GOOD GRIEF PEOPLE!! MY QB's BLOW" but he'd never say that. They'll give him a couple of years to get some offensive firepower in there.

You can’t be serious…

Yeah, it honestly starts and ends there. If they have even an average college QB, they likely beat or at least go down to the wire with OSU and beat Marshall going away.

There's a reason why they have been pushing CJ Carr to reclassify since the day he committed.

I'm perfectly serious. I know Freeman will get some time to get his house in order, but if he fails after a couple of years and Fickell is still here, I wouldn't be surprised if ND picks up the phone. Fickell won't be here forever, but I particularly hate the prospect of ND poaching from us again.

4th in recruiting for 2023. He will be given time to turn it around.

Let’s not do this already

LOL. The 12-team playoff makes conference championships mostly meaningless; the conference champions will almost invariably be teams that would have been at-large picks. ND will be there whenever they are undefeated or once-beaten, and sometimes when they are twice-beaten. They are a ratings dream.

Spot on. Their QBs are terrible.

RE: Notre Dame and Fickell - Bcatbog - 09-11-2022 09:51 AM

I always marveled at how ND cannot get a stud QB while UC goes from one to another. Prater impressed me yesterday. Our depth of talent is impressive.

RE: Notre Dame and Fickell - Cat-Man - 09-11-2022 09:56 AM

I doubt ND would go to the (Cincinnati) well 3 times in a row.

Besides, now that UC is in the Big 12, I'm not as concerned about losing CLF. They can get another good coach in that league. The AAC....ehh...not so much.

RE: Notre Dame and Fickell - UCGrad1992 - 09-11-2022 11:19 AM

I was hoping we could get through a season without a Fickell "threat to leave to X school thread." I get it early on in his tenure but this comes up every year for six years now and he's still here. No coach has stayed as long in recent history outside of Rick Minter. That's a span of nearly two decades. Change is inevitable so let's just appreciate Fick every year we're blessed to have him.

RE: Notre Dame and Fickell - Edgebrookjeff - 09-11-2022 11:58 AM

Fickell is not taking the ND job. If he had wanted the ND job, he would have found a way to take the ND job. He could have done it like Scott Frost did it at UCF. He was willing to talk with them after the season, but he knew they couldn't wait that long.

Yeah. While beating ND last year was big for UC, Marshall doing the same thing to ND this year takes a little of the shine off of it.

That was ND's only regular season loss, though.
