If they were willing to pay that----you have to wonder why they just didnt keep the rights to the #1 SEC game of the week.

So if I’m understanding correctly - they are paying $350 million/year for second choice every other week? And third choice on the off weeks?

I like that they have kept that song around since it debuted during Super Bowl 21, then moved to college football in the fall of 1987.

CBS needs to bring back the Pots and Pans theme for the NFL that it had 86-88

My guess is that CBS and NBC are each paying $350M and rotating the #1,2,3 picks with Fox. Just a guess though, we're waiting on the press releases and then the deep dives which might not come for years.

And they don't get the CCG

The SEC would have given them the CCG for that price

They should have paid the SEC

They were too cheap, and it cost them.

No brainer with the markets the BIG10 has now. Advertisers are coveting the BIG10 territory. SEC is just a small regional conference now compared to the National footprint the BIG10 has

Rights fees have risen in the past three years?

I think we've really started to underestimate the conferences agency in these negotiations. I think that building up over the last 10 years or so since the 2011 expansion, the SEC has not wanted to resign with CBS. And so they didn't.

The Big Ten has wanted to break away from ESPN and reduce ESPN's power. And it looks like they have.
One of the reasons that the Big Ten gave for spiking the playoff last year was they wanted to bring in or at least open the bidding to multiple media partners. In other words not just hand it to ESPN.

I don't think Fox is at war with ESPN my friends. I think the big 10 is at war with ESPN. Fox is doing business. With ESPN without ESPN whatever

Good point ... I hadn't really thought much of that angle and it resonates with me.

But ... I also suspect that if the SEC was bargaining for that deal today instead of in 2019-2020 when it was negotiated, it would be for more.

Surprised they didn’t give ESPN even a little piece, as this could influence ESPN coverage of B10 games... Sportscenter, radio, highlights, etc.

ESPN and FOX still have war chests

I expect CBS and NBC blew their wad

CBS and NBC are just starting their major investments in college football. NBC will pay ~$75M annually for Notre Dame. Further, both CBS and NBC will make a run for part of the expanded college football playoff and they needed the B1G content for credibility.

WOW... THEY SHOULD HAVE JUST KEPT SEC GAMES FOR THAT PRICE! SEC HAS BETTER RATINGS!

Do we really need a 3rd thread on the same topic?

That's cool for CBS. They secured their 3:30 game. I doubt they are interesting in picking up more games.

How many will tune in to anything out side of Ohio State/Michigan, Ohio State/Wisco, Ohio State/Penn State, Ohio State/Iowa? CBS just over paid for Northwestern vs Rutger... WOW just WOW!
