Even if they know, they aren't letting that information out prior to the Arkansas game.

Yeah, no idea why anyone doesn't understand how big of a scouting advantage it is for us to have two VERY different QBs that Arkansas will have to prepare for.

Arkansas 23. Houston 25.

You have to wonder if these guys just turn in the same ballot every year. Does the top 4-5 pre-season ever change?

The Big12 should be thanking their lucky stars the Fab 4 are coming. All 4 ranked in the top 32. Outside of Baylor and OSU, you don't see another (remaining) Big12 team until #45.

Quote:Five teams that start the season overrated in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

No. 7 Texas A&M

No. 15 Southern California

No. 16 Pittsburgh

No. 18 Texas

No. 22 Cincinnati

The sustainability of the Bearcats will be tested after several of their key performers departed after reaching the playoff last year. The biggest loss is quarterback Desmond Ridder, who was most of the offense for the past four years. Also gone are the team's top rusher (Jerome Ford) and top receiver (Alec Pierce). There’s going to be an unavoidable dropoff whether holdover Evan Prater or Eastern Michigan transfer Ben Bryant win the competition to replace Ridder. The hits were more extensive on defense with Ahmad Gardner among six NFL draft picks from that side of the ball. It should still be a good unit but it will be more giving than last year's elite group. With Houston and possibly Central Florida as threats in the American Athletic plus a non-conference game against Arkansas opening the season, it's more likely Cincinnati is fighting to stay in the rankings than returning to the playoff.

I doesn't take a genius to figure out we're not going to the playoffs again, but it's likely we will be in the T25 by year's end.

LOL. A team ranked #22 is overrated! Reloading, not rebuilding. I'm happy we're ranked where we are.

Then Fickell should at least be texting me or something.

Re: QB

Like it was said in one of the clips. Hopefully it will pan out to where it is blatantly obvious who the starting QB should be.

Re: Ranking/Schedule

It would be so nice to sneak one out against Arkansas. It's going to be hard for UC (or any AAC team) to move the needle and climb into or up the polls. The schedules are just too weak. Beating up on each other may not be enough. UC is the only team with a currently ranked OOC team on the schedule. It's going to be hard for any of the AAC teams to get any respect this year. Not sure if beating Indiana, UofL, Kansas, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Texas Tech or TCU is going to do it. Only one of them are getting a vote in the top 54 (UofL =1)

Let's hope pre-season rankings are as useless as in years past and some of these OOC teams end up having really good seasons (with an AAC loss of course).

Could we have 1a and 1b.

Start 1a and if struggles try 1b?

What did he say [or didn't say]? As we've seen many times, Coach can get his team fired up...

I think to decide on the quarterback, Fickell is going to have to scrimmage some dogfight football ala Top Gun 2
Sorry for the spoiler but you've had a couple months to see it.

Getting more excited every day for another season of Bearcat Football.

RE: 2022 Bearcats Football Season Thread - BigDawg - 08-10-2022 10:25 AM

My gut says Bryant starts the season as the starter as the experience he has should benefit at Arkansas. I do think there will be a Prater package that gets him some time as well at Arkansas. As the season progresses we will see how it plays out, but I can see both being used much of the season as they have different abilities.

Coach was asked about that in one of the prior interviews that was posted. He said no, there will be a 1 and a 2 unlike 4 years ago when it was 1a and 1b.

The thing with a "Prater package" that gets me is that it's essentially telegraphing the plays when he comes in if Bryant is the starter. Why would you bring a supposedly inferior QB in to just be a QB?

That is correct. Coach Fick and Coach Gino want a starter to establish himself as QB1.
