A couple of under the radar moves by Arkansas State football. Brian Snead, who started career at Ohio State and is a recent Austin Peay grad, is in the RB room and Alabama transfer King Mwikuta is no longer on the roster.

Did not see an official post-spring depth chart but King Mwikuta exited spring as the backup to Arkansas transfer Blayne Toll. 2021 Louisville transfer Thurman Geathers, has bulked up and was the starting DE on the other side, and apparently RSFR Denard Flowers behind him. Even moving their best defensive player Kivon Bennett to LB that position looked solid last spring with some talented young players behind these four. They did add a late transfer from Purdue, Robert Mcwilliams.

Here is an article about their spring performance on defense in the ADG : https://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2022/mar/22/red-wolves-show-hunger-on-defense/?sports-college

The DL they mentioned, Terry Hampton, transferred to Arkansas.

Snead did not participate in spring practice, where Iowa State transfer Johnnie Lang finished spring as the starter, with former freshmen star Marcel Murray as the likely backup. Based on summer workouts the expectation is that Snead is going to be a strong candidate to start this fall, although in may be RB by committed among those three.

Edited note: Snead did participate in spring practice.

Worth noting that if healthy-which he has not been since his freshmen year when he was Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year , Marcel Murray might be their best player, period. Can do some things neither I ,or any old-timers I know, have seen any back do at A-State in 50 years, and apparently he is healthy. Have not seen Snead.

If they can generate anything resembling a running game this will be a good team. Their defense and special teams are going to be solid at some point this season.

Should be a fun year for A-State fans, look forward to visiting at the end of the season. Enjoy!.
