They have the money and probably make a profit in football. But they can’t change the fact that they are in Lubbock

They could also own about 5% of an aircraft carrier for that......

They spent almost that about 10 years ago

My granddaughter went there for a year. The area around the university is kind of nice but....not so sure about the rest of the place. Best part of our trip there was driving back to Dallas. Not sure what highway we took but about a mile or so out of Lubbock I look off the the side of the road and there is this large barren sandy plot of land and I saw hundreds of these little critters running around on it. It was a large prairie dog village, right next to the road.

Funny you mention that. When my granddaughter went to Tech, she lived in an apartment on Mac Davis Lane just down the street from the football stadium.

I doubt she even knows who he is. Here is a little Memphis trivia on Davis. He wrote these songs that Elvis recorded. In the Ghetto, Memories, Don't Cry Daddy and A Little Less Conversation. So Lubbock was the home of Mac Davis and Buddy Holly.

Looks like TT is trying to keep up with the Tigers.

Hawaii state government completely funds a new $400 million stadium.

Governor David Ige is expected to sign budget on Thursday that will earmark $400 million for long awaited New Aloha Stadium project.

Perhaps we should be calling Nashville.

Except that one is spending it on their own stadium. They’re most definitely not trying to keeper up with Memphis. They’re way ahead.

I am sure you believe you are correct and that a $200m remodel of an OCS is better than a $200m remodel of Liberty Stadium. Or actually Light Years ahead. The thing is no one outside of few delusional Tiger Fans see it that way.

Well, it's kindof two different arguments:
1) The "delusional" fans who can envision the atmosphere and experience of tailgating at a game on campus (ignoring to experience of driving out after the game) and how much fund that would be for everyone who doesn't live on Grandview. That experience would be awesome.
2)The Simmons Bank Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium at Rex Dockery Field renovation as more of a stop-gap measure to get us into a better league. Once there, then we can worry about other stuff.

To me, the ultimate long term goal should be an OCS, but, you have to get into the club first.

Why can't the University issue bonds to finance a stadium, like the County did for FedEx Forum?

(07-16-2022 07:23 AM)micman Wrote:  Why can't the University issue bonds to finance a stadium, like the County did for FedEx Forum?

The university doesn't have the legal authority to create long term debt for anything purpose nor does the university have the ability to create financial obligations beyond its ability to pay those obligations incurred at the time incurred. In fact no public university, college or school in TN has that ability (to spend beyond its income). For such institutions the state legislature the THEC as been established for that purpose. Only certain incorporated municipalities, counties & the state of TN can incur long term debt and financing thru bonds & in many cases the State of TN has to sign-off on such obligations by municipalities & public entities within the state.

That said, the state & the city of Memphis can act on behave of the university in such capacity if they support it along with alumni & donors.
