BIG12 future expansion - doss2 - 06-16-2022 09:46 PM

once UT OK depart do you want to stand pat or add 4 teams to had 4 pods of 4. who to add?

Memphis - adds TN and is a bridge to UC WVU

Boise - FB cache and BYU area.

UT State - BYU has UT covered

CSU - adds CO

UNLV or NV - Vegas Baby!

NM -

There are not 4 worthy teams above. Perhaps Memphis and Boise and 7 team divisions.

Memphis is a good bridge. That said, don't dilute the product. Stand pat until someone like USF, Memphis etc forces the hand of the B12 to expand.

I doubt the networks will pay for those additions at the same rate as UC or BYU.

I say stay pat. If two G5s step up and show themselves to be really great and have sustained success and show the investment then maybe add down the line. Unless media partners say we need two more and they'll add money for the 2025 contract then I say we're good for now

Then, when the ACC gets hit, finish the job with:
Virginia Tech
Miami (the one in Florida)
Louisville
Pittsburgh

to finish the "East."

I could really enjoy the thought of a late fall trip to Tucson AZ for a football game. Or a trip into Boulder CO. Being retired, I can easily extend those into a week of vacation. (Much more interesting to me than going to Lubbock) Beyond that, the potential PAC additions don't move the needle that much for me personally.

Huggins complained about the brutal travel schedule out of Morgantown for B12 games. Without looking at all the flight possibilities, to go to AZ, AZST, CO or Utah might actually be easier travel than to Baylor or Ttech.

However, stability and TV money must always be considered.

Bolded, it's tough to get out of Morgantown regardless but his point is well taken. It's no longer West Virginia out on a distant island in the P5. UCLA will fly coast to coast for Rutgers; Maryland will fly (nearly) coast to coast for USC. And if we're to believe published reports that the AZ schools may hop on board in the B12, UC will be making more frequent and longer trips than ever before. For football, it's a once every second or fourth year to make that trek. For men's basketball, it's going to be more frequent and the "student athletes" may miss classes for a full week if road games get scheduled back-to-back, say in Phoenix and Tucson if ASU and UA join our party.

Crazy times in college athletics.

My wife went to Arizona and I've been telling her there is Non-zero chance uc and Arizona will be in the same conference.

Who would have thought that UC and Texas Tech or UC and Baylor would be in the same conference? Who knows, maybe they won't. Could Lucy have pulled the football on UC again?

RE: BIG12 future expansion - True Bearcat - 07-02-2022 11:20 AM

As realignment is upon us again, and the rumor mill spins ever so faster. I look for the Big 10 to take Stanford, Oregon, Washington, and Notre Dame. I do not think the Irish can refuse a 100 million dollar payday. This will have SEC go after Florida St, Clemson a Texas school and one of the Virginia schools. The Big XII will be the third best conference taking Utah, Arizona or Arizona St, California, or Colorado. Or a complete merger with the PAC 12. The leftover Pac 12 of Oregon St, Washington St with maybe Cal, ASU or Arizona to pick apart the Mountain West. Air Force, Boise, SDSU, Fresno, UNLV, New Mexico, Colorado State, and Wyoming are called to fill it out.
A new Big XII with a substantial payday will emerge
1. Baylor
2. Brigham Young
3. Central Florida
4. Cincinnati
5. Houston
6. Iowa State
7. Kansas
8. Kansas State
9. Oklahoma State
10. Texas Christian
11. Texas Tech
12. West Virginia
13. Arizona
14. Arizona St
15. Utah
16. Colorado
17. California
18. Memphis

Colorado, the Arizonas, and Utah would make for some great long distance trips. Might even have to break the van out for a drive or two if that comes to fruition.

I'm cool with adding any of the PAC12 leftovers.

Just pleeeeeeeease no former AAC's.

Tucson and Boulder are great destinations.

Pullman and Corvallis...I'm sure their moms say they have great personalities.

RE: BIG12 future expansion - doss2 - 07-02-2022 02:05 PM

It seems to me that the Big needs more Western teams to make the travel cost and time reasonable for the non FB, BB sport so look for OR, WA and one or two others to join UCLA and USC. The PAC then will poach some MW or some will join B12 and MW.

It has to happen.

RE: BIG12 future expansion - colohank - 07-02-2022 04:30 PM

B1G fakes everyone out of their jocks by adding not only Notre Dame, but also Cincinnati. Bearcats get to roll in money, play regular home-and-home classics with the folks in Columbus, and renew their Big East rivalry with Rutgers.

Lol...much higher chance the SEC comes calling for Cincinnati, in the sense that. 0000001% is much higher than .00000000000000000000000001%
