2022 Football Season Predictions - jaybird44 - 05-19-2022 05:11 AM

Am I the only one who sees 8 or 9 wins on this football schedule. I may be a homer, but as my friends from Penn State told me that RR did not leave Penn State to be mediocre at Old Dominion. I see Virginia Tech, East Carolina, Liberty, Marshall, JMU, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, South Alabama, and Arkansas State as winnable games. Before you laugh at me, I am the one who predicted we would beat Tech at home in 2018 last time on air, said Taylor should be playing in the NFL before he was, said we were going to shut down in 2020, said we were going to Sun Belt when everyone said we were going to American and predicted 6 wins last year, but not in the order it happened. You can look them all up on CsNbbs here! Your thoughts? Are the "experts" right? Are you still stuck in the losing mindset culture? Just curious!!!

I think you could be on to something. I would throw UVA in the win column but maybe take out the two State Teams, Ga. and Arkansas that would get ODU to eight wins. Will anyone be disappointed with an 8-4 record?

RE: 2022 Football Season Predictions - ODU True Blue - 05-19-2022 07:02 AM

7-5 or 8-4

RE: 2022 Football Season Predictions - Monarchist13 - 05-19-2022 07:07 AM

I don’t do predictions. But I’m very excited for this schedule and this team. Gonna be a fun season.

RE: 2022 Football Season Predictions - ODUODUODU - 05-19-2022 07:10 AM

I predict fun... I know we will be competitive...

It would be Awesome to go 4-0 against the in state teams....

RE: 2022 Football Season Predictions - monarx - 05-19-2022 07:24 AM

I see 4 to 6 wins. This team should be good. Better than last season. But I think the brutal schedule keeps the win count low. Keeping things close in some of these games will still be a sign of progress and bode well for the future.

Hopeful wins: Ark state, GaSo, JMU, USA
Slight Underdog but almost a tossup: GSU, Marshall
Heavy underdog but winnable: ECU, LU
Probable losses: VT, UVA, App, Coastal

If we can beat ECU and LU or one of the P5s, we may be ahead of schedule and in for a very good season. Should be fun.

RE: 2022 Football Season Predictions - Chillie Willie - 05-19-2022 07:45 AM

I have a new perspective. Not of the teams performance, but because I moved my seats to the south end and I’m 10 yards closer to midfield. I feel like I just bought a house down the street with a better view of the ocean. And I don’t live on the beach now.

Also, 4-8. Call me a pessimist, but it’s what I predicted last season and I feel equally unconfident about it this year.

RE: 2022 Football Season Predictions - Stat Geek - 05-19-2022 07:49 AM

Im not sure I'm going to make a prediction this year. We improved greatly last year and have continued to upgrade the talent, but we obviously played a weak schedule and this years schedule is going to be brutal. Its possible we are improved and win 4 games.

Im very excited about our level of competition and the growth in the program. I may be depressed if we lose to JMU though.

My prediction: In a few weeks, my excitement level for the season to begin becomes uncontrollable. It is all I begin to talk about. My wife asks me to please stop mentioning it to everyone I talk to, including herself.

My head might explode from happiness if that happened. Even if we lost every other game on the schedule (which we wouldn't)

RE: 2022 Football Season Predictions - 757ODU - 05-19-2022 08:22 AM

This could be the best team we have ever had, and they could win 3-4 games.

Agreed. Which brings up a good question. Are we better off playing these brutal schedules and having 3 to 7 win seasons, or scheduling slightly more conservatively and increase our chances of getting some 8 to 10 win seasons? Im not saying avoid tough teams altogether, just sprinkle in a few more Akrons and Charlottes and Towsons to go with the VTs, ECUs, UVAs and LUs. A bit more balance in the OOC. Especially now that we play Marshall, App, CCU, GaSo, JMU and GSU every year. On the other hand, playing UVA etc at home is probably better than playing MTSU in the toilet bowl at 2pm on a Wednesday. Even if it means not bowling. Plus, with this schedule if we run the table (and maybe even with one loss) we could be looking at the NY6 slot. >1% chance, but still...

RE: 2022 Football Season Predictions - odufansam - 05-19-2022 08:42 AM

I think winning six games is a huge success. Winning more than six would be by far the most successful season ODU has ever had (given the quality schedule). From what I saw of Wolff last season, he is a game manager and not the type of QB that can lead us to seven or eight wins. I hope he proves me wrong. There's no FIUs on the schedule next season. Every game will be a battle.

OOC schedules are booked 5 or more years in advance usually. Hard to predict how strong certain teams will be in the future.

For sure. But its pretty safe to say any P5 is going to be tough most years. Especially VT (and we actually have them at a down period now). And its a good bet ECU is nearly always going to be a pretty tough team. LU is a surprise. Id be fine with something like VT, ECU, Richmond and Eastern Michigan for an OOC. Or UVA, LU, Towson and Charlotte. Sets us up better for 2 OOC wins.

We will beat UVA and beat them badly. They got destroyed by the transfer portal and got very little from it.

Fixed it for you.

And nice snap. That hudson blue lid is new, as is the hudson blue highlight on the jersey. Last year it was gray highlighting a navy number. The other change appears to be the number on the sleeve, that was the shield logo last season.

As a longtime vocal advocate for the Hudson Blue I gotta say this is amazing! I wonder if the black unis will have Hudson Blue trim as well?! I think that with the Hudson lid would look electric! Been asking for a Hudson helmet for a long time, can't wait to see it on the Hudson/Navy uni combos!
