We picked kind of a bad time to start this up again. Right before off-season. And we sucked at basketball so we didn't even have that to fall back on. Hopefully e get it really ratched up closer to fall.

Out of all the "conference" members we had in C-USA, I liked Charlotte and FAU the least. Couldn't care less about UTSA, FIU, or North Texas. I liked ODU and LA Tech as well as the others that were already in the conference.

Yeah Charlotte had this Ivy League entitlement about them when they had nothing to back it up academically or on the field, at least not any field that made the conference money. We subsidized them so they could be good at tennis or whatever. They never did squat in basketball or football that amounted to a hill of beans, while in CUSA with us.
And I don't respect FAU because they bought a few years of winning and then sucked again. They didn't work hard to build a program and have zero tradition or history. And even through their glory years they only beat us once, barely. And they stunk it up OOC so they never even got us a ranked team out of it. And their basketball was a train wreck the whole time.
So happy to be rid of both of them. If it had been just UAB and us going to the AAC, I would have been pretty happy about it, as that's what many thought early on. But after what I saw the AAC dragged into their dumpster I wanted no part of that. I don't care if they make 5 times the money we do in the long run. They are pretenders. And I really just wanted to be in conference with ECU again. Rice refuses to be consistently good and couldn't care less. Charlotte and FAU, see above. UTSA has one good year in 10 in football. Basketball blows. UNT developed good basketball and seems to be stable, but football hit it's high a few years ago and never got over the hump and is not consistent at all. UAB is really good, but I'll still always be waiting for the other shoe to drop. And they screwed up our division play for several years. The east didn't get to play our division round robin, fully, because west games had to be covered. And at that time the west was weak so some teams got an advantage playing more of them.
I don't care where this league goes or ends up. I've never looked forward more to the games and the teams we'll be playing than I have these last few months. I'm more excited about the individual matchups than I am worried about this conference's place in the universe. That will take care of it's self. The solidarity here is so much better than anywhere we've been since the SoCon. We don't have to fight with these fans every day because they know us and they know football. Never had that in CUSA with the newbies. It was cutthroat as hell. And the MAC was all of them vs us.

It really is a great feeling being this excited about the upcoming conference slate. In our division, I'm probably least familiar with Georgia State and Georgia Southern. But I've seen them play on ESPN and know enough about both programs to legitimately be looking forward to the games. Same thing with our opponents to the west -- Troy and Louisiana.
It's a lot different than 2013-2015, where with the exception of Western Kentucky, I had to consult Wikipedia to figure out who exactly we were playing.

Funny that Wikipedia had been around longer than most of them were playing football. We've been playing football about as long as lightbulbs have been available to purchase.
