A-10 open to 16th member - topper1296 - 05-02-2022 05:28 PM

Quote:The Atlantic 10 will add Loyola Chicago as its 15th member on July 1st and the league would be open to further expansion, Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette McGlade told College Hoops Today on Monday.

“We would definitely be open to adding a 16th member,” McGlade told College Hoops Today in an exclusive interview. “Is there an urgency right now to do it? No. But membership is always on the agenda of every single meeting. If it makes sense from a leadership perspective and from a profile perspective, it’s something that we’re definitely open to.”

Fort those scoring at home:

Midwest: Loyola-Chicago, St. Louis, Dayton

South: Davidson, Richmond, VCU

NY/New England: Fordham, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure

DC/Philadelphia: George Mason, George Washington, LaSalle, St. Joseph's

None of the above: Duquesne

St. Bonnie is far closer to Duquesne than the other NY/NE schools. For that matter, it is just as close time wise to Dayton or Philly as it is to Fordham, and Dayton's closer than UMass or URI.

Someone like a Charleston will be heavily looked at. If they want to get somebody from a lower league.

Cue the jockeying from every non-football CAA member. Teams are going to have to get serious if they want consideration, I don't think any of them are on the short list right now.

Or even if you’re alone

RE: A-10 open to 16th member - HatterFan - 05-02-2022 06:39 PM

let me go full Dave State for a second:

UMBC, Vermont, Iona, Siena, C of C, Drexel, Hofstra, Northeastern, UNCW, UNCG, some random Horizon League school to balance the geography.

I don't think anybody else fits what the A10 would possibly consider.

Bently
Stone Hill
Wagner

St. Peter's should be getting a call soon.

I don't think the A10 would consider Drexel while also keeping both SJU and La Salle aboard.

For random Horizon League school, I offer Northern Kentucky. If they manage to step up their game, being in the Cincinnati metro area gives them a slight leg up. Wright State technically has had more success within the Horizon League lately, but no way they get in while Dayton is a member. Realistically neither has a shot, but they can dare to dream, eh?

Siena (MAAC):Top 65 market, great fan support, no March Madness since 2010 and seems like a chronic underachiever

College of Charleston (CAA): Top 75 market that extends the A-10 footprint; good fan support, especially for mid-major in the South; just one NCAA bid since 2000

Detroit Mercy and Oakland (Horizon): Top 10-15 market, UDM probably fits he traditional A-10 profile better, but Oakland has enjoyed a bit more success and seems to have a better fan following as well; deep in the shadows of Pistons, UM and MSU

Wouldn't classify any of the three as a "good" candidate

Literally can't think of any other school that'd be a realistic possibility (and yes that means Temple and Wichita from the AAC are no-go's)

Is the guy who said Gonzaga to the Big East was a done deal?

RE: A-10 open to 16th member - solohawks - 05-02-2022 07:01 PM

If we are going by merit Vermont had earned it

RE: A-10 open to 16th member - PeteTheChop - 05-02-2022 07:02 PM

Coming soon: Belmont to the A-10 makes a lot of sense
