NCAAF Proposal to Remove Division Requirement for Championship Games - epasnoopy - 05-02-2022 04:34 PM

Looks like we may be able to get rid of East and West football divisions so MAC can match up its two best teams in the MAC Championship.

That proposal that would no longer require FBS conferences to have divisions in order to hold league title games, effectively giving such conferences better access the College Football Playoff by allowing them to match their two best teams.

Does this mean we get rid of east/west thus making our schedule easier? The East has been the poorer conference for a long time. Changing the schedule means longer travel time for the team but a couple of easier games each year.

There goes our rivalry with Toledo. Lol.

And what of the Bronze stalk game? May not be played every year.

Think it might mean we can get a MAC Championship game with NIU vs Toledo.

For example, in 2014, MAC West had two 7-1 teams with NIU and Toledo but Bowling Green (5-3 in MAC) played NIU in MAC title. Toledo beat BG that year and BG was 0-3 vs MAC West teams.

B.S. Doesn't matter unless the College Football Playoff is going to include more G5 representation and this plan says nothing about guaranteeing "better access" to the playoffs. The P5s will simply use this as an excuse to claim current P5 champs left out of the playoff belong before additional G5 schools get a chance.

This could also be preparatory to expanding the playoffs to 12 teams, which was put on hold (but not dropped) after the last round of debate.

The current 4-team setup "leaves out" a number of P5 contenders, including the PAC 12. If they go to 12, expect similar but larger controversy over who gets in after the conference champions. E.g., if 6 conference champions are in (including the best G5), how are the other six slots filled? There was never even a hint of a clear answer to that during the CFP-to-12 debate.

Don't want to open up the whole expanded playoff debate, but inclusion of "6 conference champions" without naming them was to allay anti-trust questions r.e. G5 access. This could be a way to settle some of the additional controversy by allowing wider use of other parameters for the other six slots than just winning a CCG.

This could expand/contract G5 access to the CFP, beyond just one conference champion (if that's the CFP model chosen). Anyway, regardless of any opinion about the status of the "new" Big 12, it has enlarged the so-called P5 field by 3.

IMO, we are moving toward a larger CFP, but just in smaller steps. I have no more knowledge than anyone else, so just speculating here.

Yes, they will keep the divisions and change them to Leaders and Legends.

Hey...speaking of that....sort of, sort of not----did we ever get our banner for tying for the division in basketball a few years back? That was a pretty mighty accomplishment, I recall?

Can we get more senseless change and then complain how the change didn't do what it was supposed to do then change it more.

Creating a solution to a problem that didn't exist only to create one.

FYI Toledo is on Lake Erie.

The ncaa only does anything for money. This is just so conference championship games can have Ohio state vs Michigan instead of Iowa and Clemson vs NC state or Florida state instead of Pittsburg. Oh, and of course NIU vs Toledo instead of Miami O

I am familiar with the geography of the United States. I thank Rand McNally , being born before 1990 and my parents for summer vacations in Chevelles and Malibu wagons.

And Toledo can suck it if they don’t like it.

It may be a little bit of a wait, but I look forward to the day we play Eastern Michigan for the MAC Conference Championship.

The NCAA is easing restrictions on division requirements in response to an event they don't sanction.

Got it.

Good for the MAC like the other conferences at the end of the day.

RE: NCAAF Proposal to Remove Division Requirement for Championship Games - randyfensfanclub1 - 05-05-2022 10:18 AM

Perhaps FanDuel and other gambling sites are behind this.

Don't want gamblers hitting NIU at 75....150-1 to win MAC West again.
