Stadium Expansion - DallasTiger - 04-21-2022 01:51 PM

Got an interesting email today from SMU. Apparently they are looking at expansion of FORD STADIUM. Here it is.

Dear Mustang Fans,

It’s been a special year on the Hilltop, and we are excited to continue the momentum of SMU Football under new head coach Rhett Lashlee. We are equally excited to begin construction on the new, transformational Garry Weber End Zone Complex. Part of this project will include expanding seating options for our fans. Your experience at Ford Stadium is very important to us, and we want your input on options you would like see as part of this project.

Below is a link to a survey regarding types of seating and club spaces that may be included in construction. Our goal is to directly engage with you so as to create a best-in-class fan experience on gameday. We want you to know that no decisions have been finalized, and your feedback will play an important role as we design an expanded Ford Stadium. To launch the survey, simply click on the link below.

That stadium has a very small footprint in an upscale neighborhood.

Great model to follow.

One of my favorite stadiums. And it will still be mostly empty on game day.

Someone at SMU clearly skipped the Supply & Demand lecture.

USF and SMU both have announced stadium projects underway.

Memphis? We have an as many as five threads arguing about what we should do about a stadium. That should count for something.

RE: Stadium Expansion - Marc Mensa - 04-21-2022 06:31 PM

Why don’t they just move into the Cowboys stadium.
So stupid to invest more in an on campus stadium when Jerry World is available.

RE: Stadium Expansion - Agrizz - 04-21-2022 07:29 PM

Someone gave them $50M to do an expansion. What's there to debate?

By a bunch of posters that whine about a $50 ticket. But hey as long as someone pays the 200 million it’s all good

I'm good for 100 of that. Can any one else make up the other $199,999,900?

It's payday. I have $80 I can pitch in.

Only $199,999,820 more to go.....

obviously we’re currently in the right conference & right stadium for Memphis football.

Here is a short bio on Weber.

He went through SMU on a football scholarship. He co-founded an investments firm. He served four years as a county judge, four terms on the Dallas City Council. He lost a close race for mayor. He dives for sunken treasure.

Man-of-many-talents Garry Weber stayed in Dallas and did well. In 1957, he earned Ail-American Honorable Mention on the ’57 SMU football team. In 1958, he graduated with a finance degree that enabled him to buy a seat on the New York Stock Exchange. He later became CEO of the brokerage firm Weber, Hall, Sale, and Associates Inc.

In ’75, Weber linked up with deep-sea salvager Captain Tracy Bowden off the coast of the Dominican Republic. By researching 400- to 500-year-old Spanish archives, Weber and company found two Spanish galleons loaded with jewelry, decorated swords and household goods, which had sunk off the coast of the Dominican Republic in 1724. Weber has also been involved in salvage projects in the Mediterranean and off the coast of Jamaica.

He serves on the SMU Board of Trustees, the Institute of Nautical Archaeology and Yosemite National Park, among others. His new investment, Satellite Music Network, produces live radio formats for stations across the country.

ok, awesome

RE: Stadium Expansion - 72Tiger - 04-22-2022 01:36 PM

People have been clamoring for a bunch more empty seats at SMU on game day.

There was a game a few years ago, where a fan had to sit next to another fan they didn't come to the game with.

It looks like SMU will have a really nice stadium but.....the problem of putting butts in seats will still exist.

If they get a bid to the Big 12, they will have a really nice stadium for their Big 12 conference mates to help fill.
