Parents seek justice for WMU student killed in crash, driver not charged 5 months lat - Charm City Bronco - 04-02-2022 10:51 AM

How the hell have county prosecutors NOT filed charges against this drunk driver who killed a WMU student near campus? It sickens me to no extent how the law gives murderous drivers the benefit of the doubt. This person was also allegedly drunk and it is very possible that he might only get charged with a misdemeanor, if anything at all.

Car culture destroys lives.

I think it is fascinating you never see an article titled “sober driver kills young mother”. Or a heart rending interview with the “Mothers Against Sober Drivers”. Sober drivers are involved with violent accidents every day of the week. We send them to therapy to help them get past the trauma. If they had 3 beers we send them to jail. Just saying. Sober drivers get away with a lot of stuff they should be accountable for.

“Car culture destroys lives.”

I seriously enjoy your contributions. And I generally agree with you more than I care to admit, but damn…if you don’t take virtue signaling next level.

I agree, we should definitely take vehicle violence much more seriously, including that from sober individuals. I am just appalled that either KDPS or the prosecutor's office botched this case and this woman is dead because the law gives the benefit of the doubt to drivers 99% of the time...except when alcohol is involved. Even that, still, maybe they'll charge this guy...with a misdemeanor.

Just awful.

OK, perhaps I could have toned it down a bit. I could have, instead, said that I really hate how US legal system prioritizes the lives, safety and convienience of drivers over non drivers, and when the life of a pedestrian is claimed by a driver, the standard for legal punishment or consequences for the driver are so steep that innocent people die as a result.

Better?

Lawyers and lobbyists! There’s the problem! When I hear ‘car culture’ I think about collectible cars, or MOPAR/Mustang/Corvette aficionados. But I know what you meant.

They finally charged the suspect

Apparently they had the toxicology results back within weeks but had to wait for other test results to come in later to file charges. :/
