Biden said he wants the court to look more like America.

How can that be done in a 9 member court? We already have black justices, and female justices, so now we have to reserve a seat for doubly defined justices. How about gay-Asians, or female-whatever’s?

Not asking if this should be done, just how we will fit dozens of categories and sub-categories and combo-categories into nine slots.

This “look like America” is a common theme, but nobody anywhere is actually trying to make that happen. To do so would be to acknowledge that there needs to be whites, males, and white-male seats, else it would not “look like America”.

It doesn't look at all like America.

Except for ACB all justices are graduates of two law schools (Harvard and Yale), and except for ACB (7th) and Gorsuch (10th) all justices were from the northeast corridor (1st/2nd/3rd/DC Circuit courts). Brown Jackson continues both those trends. In country where there is a plurality of Protestant Christians, only Gorsuch of the current justices is Protestant. The remainder are either Jewish or Roman Catholic. Brown Jackson has not disclosed her religion but there are strong indications that, while not ethnically Jewish, she professes the Jewish faith.

If Biden truly wants to make the court look more like the USA, Brown Jackson would not have been his nominee. Actually, it would appear that Biden and other democrats want to make the USA look more like the intellectual echo chamber that is the Supreme Court. It is just part of the battle that George Friedman describes between the elite "experts" and common sense.

Of course, when the liberals say “look like America”, they are referring to demographic criteria, not intellectual or work history criteria. Race, sex, sexual orientation are the salient needs.

But now the Court will be 22% black. Does that “look like America”? If the effort is to make it proportional, does that mean the next Justice cannot be black? That would make the Court less proportional.

Going down the road of proportionality is like falling down the rabbit hole.
