Fire Jay Ladner - SouthernMissSNu - 02-21-2022 09:13 PM

This is ridiculous. He has more double digit losses than wins now.

RE: Fire Jay Ladner - Reggie Favre - 02-21-2022 10:10 PM

So did Sadler

Just wondering...we have a similar "situation". Wondering, what is Ladner's salary?

$315,000 no idea if he has any bonuses or extras, but if it is just $315,000 it is pretty low.

Really sucks cause he does love USM. I wish him all the best in whatever he does, but I really doubt he gets to stay.

RE: Fire Jay Ladner - gdunn - 02-24-2022 11:08 AM

I listened to an interview on Ladner.. I've heard others give their opinions on Ladner.

I get it.. He's loyal and loves the school, but that doesn't mean he's the right person for the job.

We need someone who can energize the base and put a good team together.

RE: Fire Jay Ladner - Golden Fogg - 03-12-2022 11:16 PM

...or Maybe don't.

Unbelievable! We don't care. So they're fine having no one care about the program for another year? Stunning!

If the oft repeated line "Jay loves SM" was true he would have resigned.

RE: Fire Jay Ladner - Noodles - 03-14-2022 09:32 PM

Sonofabitch has 2 years left now - got an auto extension after year 1

RE: Fire Jay Ladner - Footballeagle - 03-15-2022 10:04 AM

But he's one of us. Ha Ha Ha Ha

RE: Fire Jay Ladner - gdunn - 03-15-2022 10:18 AM

I'm scratching my head.. I get we don't do the buyout, and I don't follow the roundball.. I kept hearing on a couple of the podcasts that the "players love Jay and never gave up on him"... Buuuut.. We just had 2 hit the portal.. What gives

RE: Fire Jay Ladner - gdunn - 03-17-2022 08:20 AM

Now we've got 4 in the portal.

For a team of guys that love Ladner, they sure are jumping ship.

It's gonna be another re-build.

RE: Fire Jay Ladner - HarborPointe - 03-21-2022 09:38 AM

Right now, we’re better off spending our money on making the job better than replacing who has it with another person desperate enough to take it. We’re playing the long game at this point.

Let Ladner keep working for cheap until we at least bring the Coliseum into the 1990s and some of that Sun Belt money starts coming in and we can bump the recruiting budget. Then bring in somebody who can coach. Until then, you’re just handing another driver the keys to the Yugo.

Eustachy was a national Coach of the Year with connections out the wazzu, and it took him 6 years to make a postseason tournament of any kind. Tyndall had to trade 3 years of probation and the rest of his D1 career for a couple NIT appearances here.

Ladner sucks, but handing him $600k just so we can watch somebody else struggle to win 4-5 more games the next couple years isn’t the play right now. It’s frustrating as hell, but that’s what 20 years of neglecting a program gets you.

Has the program been neglected? Yes and no.
Probably more yes than no. But Tyndall had more success than anyone and that was not long ago. Had the same garbage coliseum. Also, as you said, LE had success. Sadler sank the ship. That was the hire that ruined everything. Imagine EJ for 4-5 years (apologies to Sadler, he was not as bad as EJ).

The Yurt is quite the eyesore. Though it doesn't look near as bad inside and has had a few updates. It still is terrible and needs more. However, I dont see it as an excuse to be as bad as Ladner and Sadler were. Especially coming off all those consecutive 20-win seasons.

Now we're up to 5.

You continue to gloss over the fact that Tyndall cheated his a** off, left the school and his replacement with a stack of impending then actual penalties, and rendered himself unemployable in the process. Quite literally nothing Tyndall did counts, as his official record here stands at 0–17.

The real mistake was letting Eustachy go. A couple more years with him at the helm, and maybe we have a program with some credibility. If we could luck into another big name like his, I could get behind that, because those kinds of connections & name value are what’s needed to counter our lack of infrastructure and financial investment. It’d still take somebody like that at least a few years to turn the tide, though.

Beyond that, again I say, fix the job before getting too worried about who has it. Ladner doesn’t need to be here a day longer than necessary, but it ain’t worth 600 grand to make him go away in the grand scheme of things.

RE: Fire Jay Ladner - EagNBran - 03-24-2022 10:35 PM

As a Eustachy fan, dude was not someone we needed at our program any longer than he was. What we needed to do after him was to hire Greg Heiar. Dude recruited all of LE’s best players and has consistently won wherever he’s gone. But because he’s connected to LE, we have refused to give him a chance, even though he knows what it takes to win here.

RE: Fire Jay Ladner - Eagleyed - 03-25-2022 01:08 PM

There's been a lot of coaches who have won with worse facilities than we have. A little investment and a good hire can easily put us back on the path of success. No reason to get black pilled. I doubt we will do good next year, but I will still be going to and enjoying the games for what they are.

RE: Fire Jay Ladner - gdunn - 03-25-2022 01:14 PM

I can't remember which Podacast I was listening to and their thought was Jay better either hit the transfer portal and find guys who've played together before or find a JUCO team with a few guys that already have chemistry.

Donnie got completely hosed. He did less than most coaches are doing every year. He got caught and it was nothing compared to what most schools do. You can continue to gloss over that.

I could be wrong, but pretty sure there would be no need to buy Ladner out at $600k, had he not just received an extension. I would be in the $300k category - which we would make up in ticket sales alone, multiple times over, in the first year with the right hire.

It might not be fair, but if you’re going to engage in that kind of thing at a school without anti-NCAA armor, you gotta be smart enough about it to not get caught, especially after already being caught at your previous job. We somehow played basketball 100 years before he got here and never faced that level of penalties.

That’s correct. We owe him $600k instead of $300k because he had a year added after his 2nd year. To be fair, that year was better than his first and Covid made things difficult, but in his case, Covid probably helped him because there were fewer gamed played and thus fewer to lose.

Hopefully (yeah, I know..), by this time next year, the CUSA early exit fee will be settled, the Sun Belt TV money will be coming in, the reno plans will be more concrete, and all that will make a $300k buyout much easier to swallow than $600k is today.

RE: Fire Jay Ladner - Eagleaidaholic - 03-31-2022 05:51 PM

Big question is, will we have enough players to fill a roster. And every school pays somebody to do coursework and tests online. Especially during Covid when ALL of the classes were online. Stiffest penalty ever in which a crime wasn't even committed. There have been worse incidents committed by larger schools in which people were actually harmed and the next year the team is ranked #1 in the polls.(Louisville)
