The Golden Eagles are 1-8 in C-USA and 6-16 overall. They have lost their last five games. Their last win was against non-D1 Southeastern Baptist, 100-50, on January 19th.
On January 27th North Texas played at Hattiesburg and only won by 9 points. With one minute remaining, North Texas only led by 4 points. Most of USM’s losses have been by double digits. Their only conference win was on the road at San Antonio, 74-73.

Of USM’s six wins, two were against non-D1 schools. Their best win was back in November against UNC Wilmington (187). Their worst loss was to Louisiana Monroe (269).
In C-USA, Southern Miss is last in offense efficiency and defense efficiency.
Jaron Pierre is 45-135 (.333) in 3-point shots. DeAndre Pinckney is 32-40 (.800) from the charity stripe.

UAB up to #36 in KenPom, so they've really got to put it on them and keep climbing. Top-30 should be automatic for an at-large.
Thinking WVU's 16 point win over Iowa State is what bumped us last night.
Also checked Torvik this morning and we're back at the point where it's 50-50, based on past results of teams with similar profiles, on whether or not we get a bid (it was 20% last week).

You know, before this turns into the game thread, we should spare a moment to think of the Lady Blazers, who have to play in that dump known as Reed Green Coliseum tonight. No matter how the game goes ladies, think of the bright side. You are just visiting Hattiesburg and win or lose, you get to leave when the game is over. Those poor young women you are competing against have to live there.

I have some great memories of Reed-Green:
a. My 12-year-old daughter facing off with Gary Flowers.
b. Aaron Johnson leads the original Storming of the Stands.
c. Seymour the Eagle trying to insult us with mis-spelled handwritten signs.
d. The student section contest that allowed two lucky students to watch a different game (I believe it was Duke-Carolina) on a big-screen TV courtside.

This needs to be a game the starters take care of business and allow Toney, Johnson, Brown and Gordon to all get double-figure minutes.
If Ertel plays more than 22 minutes I might toss a brick through my TV.

Had it all planned out to make it here with time to spare. Daughter pooped her pants at dinner and so had to run her and the wife back to the house. Walked in just in time to see a sweet assist from Jelly to Jemison.
Hopefully the latter will be the better harbinger for tonight’s game. 10-8 Blazers early.
