When do we switch to 247Sports for forum? - JMU13 - 02-03-2022 05:36 PM

Much better platform and most FBS teams use it for forums.

I like this one. Don’t see any reason to switch.

Agree.

For a while, I believe the DNR has worked on getting the https://jamesmadison.rivals.com/ rivals site going. They use to have pretty good information there. The problem I think most have with rivals and 247 is the paid walls to get to certain boards and information. I believe that is why this forum has flourished and continues to flourish because of it accessibility.

I am sure one of those forum sites will become a popular place as the fanbase grows in FBS.

With that stated csnbbs and GTS and others have always been awesome to JMU. It is a nice community with little to no downtime if ever.

I’d also like to see us on 247

247 has paywalls and subscription based message boards. No thanks

Agreed. No need to try and fix what’s not broken.

I respect y’all are resistant to change. However, adapt with the times. It makes our forums much more acceptable to our peers and allows cross-talk. Also more insider info.

I would ask you to look into it and strongly consider it as an option.

If you’re buying, we’ll meet you at the 247 bar

JMU invests millions in FBS after years of our fans bi$&@!( and you won’t spend $40/year for added access to the program?

Nah. I’m good.

1. This is free
2. My ESPN account will provide more accessibility to JMU sports with this switch to the Sun Belt (games to actually view)
3. DNR paywalls are weak for their content

What will that extra $40/yr bring me? Nothing I’m missing from my life right now, that’s for sure.

Another thought: I’d rather send that $40 to directly to JMU, help cover their “millions they spent” to appease fans like me.

ODU is here.
Coastal has there own board.
App State is over there, but they are also active on the SBC forum here.
Marshall is on Rivals, but also appear to come here for SBC discussion.
Sooo there doesn't seem to be a consensus spot for SBC teams and this seems to be the place for SBC discussion, unless I'm missing another SBC central board?

If we were having issues here, I would understand.
But it's not broken, so no need to fix it right now.
We aren't hard to find.

I like it here. This was a good step up from our old board and this is not broken. I really don't see any boards better.

Guess we found the guy who works for 247…

Agree with all of this.

GTS has been great in welcoming us here when the Zone collapsed and with this site being free, it truly provides a chance for any fan of any team to come on here and interact.

And it's not about "resistance to change" - it's about there being absolutely no need to change. My $$$ will go to JMU and not CBS Sports.

Alternatively, send $40 to Happy Dude in Valencia, Spain. It’ll do just as much (actually more as I would turn around and donate it to JMU) to benefit JMU as spending that on a pay platform for message boards that is completely unrelated to JMU.

“Added access”… what are you even talking about?

RE: When do we switch to 247Sports for forum? - AssyrianDuke - 02-04-2022 08:26 AM

I haven't heard of 247sports' forums. What do they provide for that $40/year? I don't like nebulous terms like "added access" that don't mean anything. Shane seems pretty well plugged into JMU, and I hope Noah can achieve the level of insight that Greg had before he went to UVA. That, combined with the folks that regularly post on this board, is a lot of free content by itself. Also, I am not sure how changing forum location will be "much more acceptable to our peers." If they want to trash talk, they can come here and all it costs them is a free account. Just my $0.02.

When do we switch to 247Sports for forum? - JMUDukes1750 - 02-04-2022 08:39 AM

I have a 247 subscription. The benefit is recruiting information, which I know not everyone cares about. If you have an engaged moderator with information, it's fantastic. If you don't, it's a waste of money.

I appreciate that information, 1750. If that's all you would really benefit from (and it is not a guarantee), then I will pass. With HUDL and Twitter, I get what I need from the recruiting side of things.
