My question is how can we improve enough to better last year's record? We now have unknowns at punter and QB it appears our LB has improved but has our DL? We have a limited number of scholarships to work with- a small number.

I am hoping Carter Evans and Melbin Swindle on the D line play well and I think they will be instant upgrades after another yr in the weight room.

I like the team we have coming back, particularly at W.R. which we should have the best group in the MAC, L.B.'s got better with the Portal, the secondary should be better with our young guys getting another yr, and I hope our line has a bounce back yr after the amount of sacks we gave up BUT... I look at the returning team and think 2-2 in OOC and hopefully 4-4 in conference for a 6-6 record. Not bad but not what CC should be delivering in year 9

If I'm not mistaken, 5 of the 8 MAC opponents will have new starting QBs next year. That should help. Won't miss Eleby, Vantrese, Crum, and Plitt. We also get the 3 returning QBs at home (Finn, Richardson, and Lombardi).

Great point Nickle. Hoping we steal one and get to 5-3 in the MAC and 2-2 OOC for 7-5 more likely 6-6

Those opponents probably looking the same at us considering we'll have a new starting QB as well.

That's why we play the game and not let the experts and bookies decide Ws and Ls.

Who knows between an EMU newcomer and a WMU newcomer QB... 03-shhhh

The difference is that EMU has the best W.R. returning out of any MAC school and that bodes well for whoever gets the nod

I think you are right Howie, Johnson, Donnelon Sow and Dooley. It will be interesting to see who the second 5 are in the depth chart.

Wow,we lost Bryant Julian and Ryland
How do we improve with unknowns against a tougher schedule?

Agreed
I have not seen enough this off-season to suggest we will do better than 6-6

Unfortunately, realistically we don't! 6-6 is the ceiling, and quite possibly 5-7, or 4-8! This's year NINE! And, I really think 2018 was the ceiling at 7-6! I sure hope I'm wrong, but CC isn't Leipold, or Mcelwain either! I want to see what Moorehead does at Akron in a few seasons! We're currently significantly better then them........

I understand what you're saying, and agree they are huge losses. However, that is kind of what college sports are all about, who is the next guy? Are they any good? Maybe we can't find a QB or specialist and we do struggle and go 4-8, or maybe one or two of them end up being upgrades and we at least end up back in a bowl game.

Think about the situation at MSU a few years back, they had Kirk Cousins (a guy some thought was the best QB in program history) and had two really good seasons his last two years. They didn't know how they would replace him....then ended up with Conner Cook and one of the most successful runs in their program history. Now, in that specific situation there was a year of transition where they bounced around between Andrew Maxwell and Tyler O'Conner before settling on Cook and went 6-6 when he was RS freshman. So who knows how it will play out, even if next year is a little bumpy maybe for the next two-three years it works out well. This was also all like six-seven years in for Dantonio.

At UofM they had Quinn Nordin who was pretty good, I think even played some in the NFL, they ended up replacing him with Jake Moody who just won the national kicker of the year.

We'll see how it all plays out.

transfer departures are also opportunities to rebuild and get new guys to come in and compete for starting roles

Agreed. I'm actually excited for this coming season and how it plays out, I kind of look at it as the third chapter of Creighton's EMU career. Chapter one were those first few tough years as he laid the ground work. Chapter two (2016-2021) he got the program to a new level (winning seasons, bowl games, etc.) peaking in 2018. 2022 starts the next chapter in my opinion; most of those guys from the chapter two era are gone or will be soon, we'll see how Creighton's uptick in recruiting impacts on-field results, and we are entering the free transfer/NIL era. We'll lose some very good players, can we move on and move up.

These next few season will tell the tale of how high Creighton can take EMU.

I respectfully disagree. Nobody needs 8 seasons to see what they can do. I agree the first 1-3 seasons lay the foundation and establish the culture but years 4,5 and 6 show what you’re capable of delivering as a coach. I love Creighton but he has reached his ceiling at 6-7 wins. Recruiting will be difficult for Creighton because other coaches will use his 8 seasons as proof that EMU does not build champions in the factory. Coach Creighton does build great young men who are competitive in the conference and there’s no shame in that!

It's tough playing behind a guy like Chad...you really don't get a chance for exposure so it's easy to be overlooked. Jesus Gomez is apparently no slouch of a kicker...he hit a 57-yarder at a practice in a live drill this year. Yes, even a live drill is not the same as in a game, but he is a guy who was recruited by Nunez, so you have to believe there is something there.
