Hofstra and NU games postponed due to anti science protocols - 82hawk - 01-02-2022 01:15 PM

Hofstra and NU games postponed due to ridiculous, ignorant, illogical, anti science, anti data, anti common sense, protocols. That's three of our first four conference games wrecked by this stupidity. I'll guarantee every UNCW player has been vaccinated to boot.

Sucks for the team. Quick question:What would a scientific approach be?

We have vaccines, boosters, treatments, antibodies for anybody who is scared. If that's not good enough, then they need to hibernate in their homes and become hermits if they need to. These college aged players are at more risk of death and hospitalization from lightning strikes. Facts and Science

Enough already. This has become mass hysteria and a psychotic disconnection from reality. Live your lives and move on.

Absolute stupidity all the way around.

Either trust the “vaccines” or admit they’re BS. All the data and “scientists” who are paid by the govt have already said this new strand is nothing more than a cold. Acting like we’re dealing with some sort of deadly plague is getting beyond ridiculous.

The CDC admitting they lowered the isolation period from 10 days to 5 to keep people at work and “because people deal with 5 days of isolation better” isn’t science.

Bill, we can question “science” as much as we want my friend. Aaron Rodgers was 110% spot on when he said, “If you can’t question science, it’s propaganda.”

I understand your view point- we are all tired. It really sucks 82, hang in there. It will get better in February. Nobody at my church wears a mask except for me/my family and possibly 2 others. I respect their views and hopefully they respect mine too.

Unfortunately, the communicable nature of this latest variant has the possibility of expanding well beyond just the players. And, that is the worry that much of the scientific community has. Moreover, treatment of this new variant doesn’t respond to monoclonal antibody treatments as well. The latest variant is likely less lethal but there is still enough Delta around that caution has been taken.

At the end of the day, the sheer numbers are such that the parts of our infrastructure can become overwhelmed when you are talking 500000-700000 cases per day at least And, if the CAA doesn’t take action , somebody is losing a job. That may be your true answer LOL.

It stinks but you have no way of knowing if the team is vaccinated or not . I did see the coaching staff at Hoggard HS to watch Hodge play and some were wearing masks in the gym-no mask required of course .

I wouldn't jump to those conclusions. The kids did just return from Christmas break basically from all parts of the country. Most programs aren't 100% vaccinated, and even if so the jab hasn't proven to be very effective against the omnicron variant. It does suck to have this happen , especially given that we can all agree we were playing our best basketball of the season. Lets just hope all or kids and staff are healthy, and we can get this behind us and get back at it soon.

Were they sick or were they tested for the sake of being tested

“Two weeks to lower the curve.”

How long ago was that again?

Remember how it all started Bill? Fear porn about over run hospitals, and fear of mass “spread” of a virus that 99% of people get over with rest and 10 days off of work.

Lol

Spare me the “this is super serious” card on this one. Myself and others are tired of hearing that crap. It’s nothing more than hysteria.

For the record, we lost nearly an entire season of basketball and other sports over this.

What’s the data on how any college players, coaching staff were negatively affected medically?

Honestly, we don’t need the answer because we all know ALL of them are as healthy as they were the day they signed up to compete for UNCW, if not healthier thanks to D1 level athletic training.

I'm done with this BS and all the sheep who are keeping it going. Shutting down college kids from playing basketball while everyone is living their lives normally elsewhere is as anti science as you can get. It's all just pure stupidity at this point and it really makes me question the value of a college education. The CAA chancellors should be ashamed of themselves for this level of ignorance. End all if the stupid protocols and play ball!

Wishing all among the Seahawks organization who have the virus a speedy, full recovery.

Trying to stay balanced here as I’ve defended the mask requirements to an extent last year. Because why not wear a mask particularly before we had vaccines.

Unless someone is sick and symptomatic the world needs to learn to live with this. Hyper-testing a low risk population that has a vaccine available to them has diminishing returns at this point. If hospitals are in tact we have to quit focusing on new cases. It’s time to move on. After this wave for sure.

I say this as a vaccine clinical trial participant and someone who deeply respects science and is very familiar with the biotech industry. We have to change the way we look at this virus. I’m not saying ignore it.

Just my opinion and I’m sure you can argue against my perspective with some reasonable points. But we have to find balance and right now this seems excessive in a low risk population that’s offered multiple doses of vaccines.

I shouldn't have brought up vaccination because that doesn't matter either. These kids have little risk even if they haven't been vaccinated. And anyone who wants a vaccine can get it. We are well beyond "protecting others", especially when you can walk out the door of a gym and into a multitude of gigantic, heavily populated stores.

My question is how many positives do we have? I thought we could play with 7-8 guys and a coach? Perhaps I didn’t read the CAA rules correctly or I’m thinking of another league.

I think the point is it shouldn’t matter. If you have a bunch of positive in kids that are asymptomatic

There’s no point debating it here because that will go nowhere. I’m just curious because I thought we play even if we had some positive cases.
