I really don't have a good feeling about this one. I hope I'm wrong.

My gut is telling me this could be really ugly .
Body language and effort vs CMU was really awful.

RE: Kent State vs. Toledo - axeme - 01-01-2022 01:42 PM

Flashes favored by 1.5.

RE: Kent State vs. Toledo - FlashintheFan - 01-01-2022 03:03 PM

Flashes up 33-26 at half. Neither team shooting very well.

Come on boys! Not interested in hearing reason 1025 why winning is nearly impossible.

RE: Kent State vs. Toledo - Muskrat - 01-01-2022 04:10 PM

A win is a win, but why can't they put the ball in the damned hole? 20 of 60 for 33.3% is awful. They won, though, in part from hitting 19 of 21 free throws, and because Toledo shot almost as badly and missed 8 free throws.

RE: Kent State vs. Toledo - fallsdog - 01-01-2022 04:12 PM

Nice way to begin the calendar year.

RE: Kent State vs. Toledo - Muskrat - 01-01-2022 04:22 PM

The pre-game article said 4 rotation players were out with COVID. I assume that's Davis, Johnson, Sullinger and Hernandez?

RE: Kent State vs. Toledo - burden - 01-01-2022 04:56 PM

Not our best effort but 1-1 is a lot better than 0-2.

RE: Kent State vs. Toledo - anti-zip - 01-01-2022 05:12 PM

Garcia looked really good today. Very active on defense and effective around the hoop. If he can build on this he could be a really big difference maker for us.

On the final play huge shout-out to the inbound defense preventing their PG from getting the ball. It immediately turned into a scramble possession when we forced Shumate to bring it across the line. Anything that they drew up was out the window at that point.

One thing I'd like to vent about for a minute. In general the officiating was fine, but sometimes I really with refs would pay closer attention to making sure the crime fits the punishment. One pivotal moment in the second half that could've had a big impact on this one was the technical on Jacobs. A little typical chippiness, UT player gets in his face after a basket he gives him a little shove. Calling a tech for the shove results in an additional foul on a key player, gives two free throws to UT, and is essentially a turnover because UT gets the ball. That's a huge swing for something that could've just as easily been handled with a warning to both players. There were s few ticky tack touch fouls particularly the 5th on Garcia and a couple on Carry that you'd really like to see the refs hold their whistle on particularly when teams are shorthanded. Obvious our guys have to be smarter and not put the decision in the ref's hands.

So happy to be wrong. Win is a win
19-21 FT shooting and winning the rebound
stat got us this win. But ugly game by both teams and terrible refs.

Now let’s get healthy and get Ball State.

701 attendance and I believe that includes tickets sold not
Fannys in the seats. Really terrible turnout.

Evidently our new AD is not the same “marketing genius” our previous AD professed he was.

I love watching live athletics. But to be fair there is no way I’m attending a Kent State game this winter. That is no knock on the team, program or athletic department….I am doing all I can to stay clear of SARS-COV-2.

Good idea.

Carry's leash is insane right now. He's played every minute of the last 4 games. Over the last two he's 4-25 from three. Don't get me wrong, he's really good but at times it seems like our offense is just 4 guys standing around watching him dribble. I know it's tough right now with so many players out, but hopefully this offense can start clicking because while a long leash is nice, a long leash in a bad offense tends to make you look highly inefficient.

Since Hornbeak was starting and not Davis ... I'd swap those two. but point well taken.

Jim: Marketing?? Their idea of Marketing is a T-shirt toss. Maybe some ridiculous graphics on a scoreboard for the 701 in attendance ( actually less than 701 ) Because many season ticket holders who were given their free seats for a donation this year don’t show up
Ok to blame it on Covid concerns but this is about much more.

BTW KSU has an indoor mask requirement. From TV coverage yesterday
this is totally ignored.

Of course, it's ignored. I've had both vaccinations and a booster, but I wouldn't attend a game now at my age if this team were as good as the 2001/02 team. I've known too many people, about half younger than I, who have died from COVID.

RE: Kent State vs. Toledo - anti-zip - 01-02-2022 10:23 AM

That mask requirement isn't just ignored by the tv it's ignored by a lot of the fans. The PR announcer reminded the fans at halftime and a group partiallywearing "chin diapers" partially unmasked near me all looked at each other and laughed. There's plenty of things I observe at games where I'm like "wtf? If I was higher risk I wouldn't come anywhere near this place.". I don't want to get into them publicly because I know the workers are short staffed and probably underpaid so I don't want to put anyone on blast for doing the best they can. My point is, the mask requirement should definitely not make anyone feel comfortable. If you're concerned about COVID, take the season off and I'll hope to see you at a game next year.
