The @bhmlegion announced that @ProtectiveStdm is their home for the 2022 season.

"By moving to Protective Stadium, a brand-new pillar of the Birmingham skyline, the Legion cements itself in the community while bringing added value to this incredible venue," Mayor Woodfin said.

I never expected anything else. Hopefully their checks cleared on the soccer stadium at UAB.

I’m just wondering how they are going to mark the field. If they can keep tenants in that building all year, huge win for the city.

Nice 04-rock

Definitely a nicer venue, but I just wonder about it being too big for them. Seems like the venue size could hurt their atmosphere.

But like I said in another thread, the more people go to Protective Stadium the better it will be for UAB football.

Season ticket for $100, that’s a steal.

That’s about 1/5 what I have been paying.

That's only good enough for one squadron ticket unless you sit behind the basket. 03-phew

Agreed. The UAB stadium for soccer was probably the perfect size.

I hope it helps.

Yeah, their schedule goes through the end of October, and into November if they make the playoffs. How are they going to handle it when we have games the same week?

I would hope the Blazers have scheduling priority over everyone, even in the event of a CCG and another tenant has to change their schedule. As long as it’s standing, Legion Field becomes the alternative for the other tenant whenever it would be needed.

UAB's agreement with the BJCC is that UAB has absolute scheduling priority

Well, sort of, might be the complete answer. I was born and raised in Mobile, a ton of my family, including me, attended South. I grew up going to South basketball and baseball games. At 29, in 2003, I moved to BHM, and started attending UAB football games. This was before South had started football. I’ve seen UAB play USM, TCU, Memphis, USF and Army. I was at the Ruben Studdard game. Well, then South started football and, of course, my fandom went back to my school.

Back before the shut down occurred, I had wondered over here, expressed my opinion of UAB’s situation, and then promptly got myself banned from the whole CUSA board and this board. I have been stalking this board for a long time because of the BHM topics you guys talk about. In that time I wasn’t completely absent of commenting on post, but that’s all I’m going to say about that. 03-shhhh I got tired of the extra work to make that happen and petitioned for another life, and it was granted. So here I am. 04-rock

Now my son now plays football at Birmingham Southern, which has taken me past Protective on UAB game days. I’ve seen the tailgates up on the parking deck as I was headed to my own up on the hilltop.

As much as our rivalry existed in the OG Sun Belt days, I’d hope one day we could share a conference again. But currently I know you guys are happy with the AAC future, and I am also happy with the direction of the SBC. So our games will have to continue to be OOC games. Which, by the way, we are 0-2, I want another shot now that we seem to have a coach that has us playing competitive football.

The Legion twitter account said the field would be marked for soccer for all of their games. So if we have games in the same week, the BJCC will be busy changing the field.

Starting to get a bit skeptical that the USFL thing is going to work out. Not sure this Legion deal gets done if there was high probability of a spring full of USFL games at protective.

$100 for a season ticket is incredible. And they don't check tickets so I also sit closer to midfield anyway. I'm just going to have to find cheap parking now. I was able to walk to BBVA.

...so there would be no option for BBVA as an 'alternate' site? I guess that might indicate the degree to which the bridge was burned between the two, from whichever side the issues arose...

...I'm probably one of the most optimistic cusses on this board, but in this case, I am DEFINITELY in the 'believe it when I see it' camp when it comes to the USFL deal... If it DOES occur, wouldn't mind checking them out, IF that is possible... I'm still pretty fuzzy as to the protocol for this 'all in one city' arrangement... 03-drunk03-drunk03-drunk
