RE: Transfer portal link - Nick in Cleveland - 12-05-2023 12:02 PM

Nice. Great kid from Ironton OH.

RE: Transfer portal link - inductchuck16 - 12-05-2023 12:11 PM

Nation's 5th rated linebacker as a senior. Didn't play much at OSU. Maybe Gant's success may tempt him.

RE: Transfer portal link - Boca Rocket - 12-18-2023 02:08 PM

Safety Chris Gales in the portal.

RE: Transfer portal link - IamN2daRockets! - 12-19-2023 02:17 PM

S Jadarrius Perkins form Florida Gators has transferred to UT (former 4 star). He appears to have 1 year of eligibility

Do you think it would make a difference if they moved the portal date to the end of February???

Maybe. Which problems would that be meant to solve?

Maybe none. But it could give a player more exposure through play in a bowl game.
Maybe more stability for a team going into a bowl game.
Maybe the players and coaches would have a better view of their needs after signing day. Certainly a player in the portal would see if they actually have a chance to earn a starting spot on the team he wants to transfer to

Players that enter the portal, I think they still have all those options. The later date might help them resist the feeling they need to get in early in order to not lose opportunites. It does being up the old buggaboos about making money off kids while restricting their ability to reach life goals. No other student is held to that level of "loyalty." If it's considered a "work contract," then the players win because they most definitely have the right to barter a bigger share of the pie, regardless NIL.

Losing players to portal is annoying but there are legit philisophical differences of opinion. Coaches plan for injury all the time. I don't think it's much different except in this, at least the coach has warning.

I've just decided, "change is hard." If it gets to a certain economic point where they are paid to play? That's my broken straw. Time for the university to get out of revenue sports and turn it over to the local communities as a form a minor leagues as in Europe.

The sad part is, it’s true. A total clusterflop. I’m not against the portal. But it’s a mess IMO

Since the MAC doesn't make any money off of anybody, maybe we should be exempt from some NIL rules, whatever they are??

Good update.

I'm surprised he landed this high but he did come from Nebraska to UT.

I'm having a hard time getting past his personal foul in the Bowl game. I wish him well. He gave UT 2 very good seasons in added depth. Always a Rocket!

Any reason why portal could not open on Jan 2nd? Schools late admit new students commonly first or even 2nd week of spring term so that is not a major barrier to that date. Would seem to be best way to eliminate impact of portal on college bowl games (doubtful players in CFP championship game are going to miss that opportunity)

Unless you're the backup QB at Texas...guy transferred after the Big 12 championship right before the playoffs.

understand that will always be exceptions but in the bigger picture of supporting programs in the other 30+ bowls-it would seem setting that later date would be more beneficial to CFB
