End of Season Awards - BearcatMan - 11-23-2021 11:22 AM

Well, they're rolling in hot and heavy at the moment:

Darrian Beavers, 1 of 6 finalists for the Butkis Award (Best LB in FBS)
Coby Bryant, 1 of 3 finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award (Best DB in FBS)
Des Ridder, 1 of 12 semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien Award (Best QB in FBS)

I'm assuming some Coach of the Year awards boards will have Fickell up there somewhere soon.

Wait...Coby but no Sauce is bonkers.

Agreed...makes me think they went "career achievement", but even that doesn't make a ton of sense. I'll take the recognition though! In it with Jalen Pitre from Baylor and Verone McKinley from Oregon (who has missed 2.5 game with various injuries this season)...I'd say he has a pretty damn good chance, far more likely than Beavers winning the Butkis, that's for sure.

Coby absolutely is worthy of being up there. It's crazy that our second best corner is a finalist for the best DB in the country award. Our secondary is truly elite.

RE: End of Season Awards - RealDeal - 11-23-2021 11:45 AM

Fickell brought up Shawn Springs from his time at OSU as a corner who was so good no one wanted to challenge him winning B10 DPOY based on reputation. I hope that the AAC voters do the same thing. Not that individual awards matter but Sauce is probably going to be the best DB in school history. Him just dominating for 3 years without award recognition probably means 10 years down the road people won't understand how good he was without some hardware, AA honors.

There may be a new award called "The Smith" given annually to the worst FG Kicker.

How can you win an award if noone is willing to pass the ball your way.

On paper Sauce Gardner is basically just a black hole. They're searching for Hoffa on our Boundary

Casual fans look at PBU's, INT's, etc.

Gardner gets few of them because no one any longer tests him. NFL scouts see what he does.

RE: End of Season Awards - CincyBro - 11-23-2021 03:09 PM

His award will come next April.....04-cheers

Denbrock was just selected as one of the 15 remaining semifinalists for the Broyles Award.

Luke Fickell was just named Home Depot National Coach of the Year

Great news and well earned and deserved.

I'm guessing there is a clause in his current contract for some bonus money for receiving that honor. That, along with a AAC championship, undefeated, top five ranking, etc.. I think it's become common to have those add-ons though with the money being tossed around in 2021, considered individually those bonuses aren't large.

Harbaugh wins AP COY award. CLF was second.

Because apparently it's less of an accomplishment to take Cincinnati to their first CFP playoff than to take Michigan to the same place.

It’s his personal achievement award for finally beating Ohio State.
