Great... - mjs - 11-22-2021 11:56 AM

Alsean Evans is not with the team today. He was sent to the locker room yesterday and didn't return. He was supposed to very talented, but really hasn't done much so far. Still will he be added to the long list of talented players that have left the team due to coaching decisions precipitated by "stupid" behaviors on their part? I'm not even going to try and list them, but it is a pretty long list. Don't think any of them were really bad young men (no suggestion of criminal behavior), but they engaged in behaviors that were a distraction to a cohesive "team".

When considering the long list of players you mention, the coaches that recruited and signed those players in the first place bear responsibility too in addition to the “stupid” behaviors you cite.

It could be argued that a coach didn't know about these "issues" when he signed the player. But, I agree that "due diligence" often reveals these types of problems in advance. Then, the question becomes- should a program like ours occasionally take a "chance" on a player with "issues" who is more talented than our typical recruit? One could argue that Darrell fell in that category, as a young player, and a Hall of Fame level coach was willing to take him under his wing and turn him into an outstanding adult citizen of our city.

I remember Steve Shields getting some criticism, on the board, for not being able to handle "talented" players with issues. Obviously, this is not always easy. You would think that Darrell would be more prepared to handle this than most but, so far, he's had the same problem as previous coaches.

He doesn't have a great stat line for starting 3 games. I expected more from him.

So did I. But, I still hope he gets back in Darrell's good graces and returns to the team.

You would think a kid that has missed 2 strait years with injuries would be happy for a little while just being back on the court. Hopefully it was a heat of the moment deal and sitting out today is punishment and he’ll be back. If not someone else will have his opportunity
