Harvey changing the momentum and all of the sudden we're making shots, pressing, getting turnovers. Rinse and repeat.

RE: Zootown Classic @ Missoula, MT - GAMES 5/6/7 - 82hawk - 11-24-2021 08:25 PM

Not sure what we are doing, but the Bolden kid isn't taking their shots and we've cut the lead to 5.

RE: Zootown Classic @ Missoula, MT - GAMES 5/6/7 - 82hawk - 11-24-2021 08:27 PM

When Okauru plays PG he needs to get everyone involved and stop shooting threes.

RE: Zootown Classic @ Missoula, MT - GAMES 5/6/7 - 82hawk - 11-24-2021 08:31 PM

Fornes needs to sit. He shoots WAY too much.

RE: Zootown Classic @ Missoula, MT - GAMES 5/6/7 - Seahawk Nation 08 - 11-24-2021 08:34 PM

So, like, seriously…why does Fornes get so many minutes?

RE: Zootown Classic @ Missoula, MT - GAMES 5/6/7 - Seahawk Nation 08 - 11-24-2021 08:35 PM

Ballgame. Ugh.

RE: Zootown Classic @ Missoula, MT - GAMES 5/6/7 - Seahawk Nation 08 - 11-24-2021 08:37 PM

Fornes has more turnovers than made shots.

RE: Zootown Classic @ Missoula, MT - GAMES 5/6/7 - seahawk1 - 11-24-2021 08:39 PM

Can someone explain what our offense is? Throw up 3’s and pray they go in?

RE: Zootown Classic @ Missoula, MT - GAMES 5/6/7 - ScribeHawk - 11-24-2021 08:40 PM

Great comeback, but ran out of gas. Just like the Pitt game, they dug too big of a hole in a winnable game.

Very encouraged by what we're seeing from Harvey lately. His defensive impact is huge, so he's going to play no mater what, but if he can occasionally go for 10-15 points? That's huge.

Clearly, whatever virus they're dealing with affected our big man rotation.

RE: Zootown Classic @ Missoula, MT - GAMES 5/6/7 - 82hawk - 11-24-2021 08:50 PM

Fornes needs to play a backup role. No more than 15 minutes per game. We made a great comeback and he was taking every other shot after and missed everything. He cost us that game because when he gets the ball, he never ends up with an assist. He's never seen a shot he doesn't like.

Phillips, Okauru, Harvey, White, Baker to start

We took 18 more shots and lost by 15. WTF?

I feel like we were sold a snake oil on a Siddle “system” and identity.

This is a Bugatti?

Lol. This is a effing 1995 Geo Metro.

Shy was sick so that sucks. Baker sick too as well as AO. Several guys sick.

Harvey and White played well tonight. They continue to look like they need to be out there. Hate it for Fornes, you have to take the 3 ball against a zone and when it doesn’t fall, it’s a problem.

There is a million ways to beat a zone, shooting threes isn’t the only way. Ball movement and motion are key. We typically don’t have much of either

I’m not buying sickness as an excuse when we out rebound them, AND we out pace them in possessions by double digits.

My biggest concern right now is we are identifying as a team that shoots a lot of threes. There has not been ONE game this season in which we shoot well. Our key to success this year is hoping the other team is worse than us.

As bad as we played I'm not willing to discount the sickness. We barely played some key guys, most importantly Phillips. And with Kelly and Baker barely playing, we had some crazy lineups.

But this is all about where we are for conference play and it's becoming clear who should be on the floor the most. The good from tonight was Harvey getting to show what he can do when he gets PT. If that can help keep Fornes and Oglesby coming off the bench it was worth the L.

I know Siddle gives PT based on defense, but as bad as we are on offense, we have to have guys who can score.

Phillips, Okauru, Harvey, White and Sims are the best we have on offense. And each of them needs to stay within their games. If they do that, this primary group may be able to right this ship. But NOBODY on this team can carry us, and NOBODY on this team should just fire at will, because NOBODY on this team is that good. We are going to have to play team ball to win.

And if Siddle wants to make it past his contract, he'd better bring a half court offensive guru on his staff pronto. There is no reason we can't have a motion offense AND have a high pressure, full court defense.

RE: Zootown Classic @ Missoula, MT - GAMES 5/6/7 - billthebighawksfan - 11-24-2021 10:06 PM

Harvey is one of the better defenders on the team. It’s good to see his offense looking better. White looks like he belongs too.

Shy only played a few minutes and Thomas didn’t play so if you don’t get that there’s something different and problematic, that’s on you. That’s our PG position not playing which is vital. Not going to argue or debate the obvious.

Some impressions from Missoula:
They had to feel like it was last year at the beginning of the game. There couldn't have been more than 25 or 30 people in the stands at tipoff.

UNCW looked lost against the Southern Miss zone. Especially in the first half, it seemed like they were just forcing up shots at the end of the shot clock.

Harvey looked good. He was the one who really sparked the comeback on both ends. White looked good.

Phillips didn't look himself even when he was in. I was wondering what happened to him - it makes sense that he was sick.

Okaru and Fornes were just ice cold from three - they make a few and Bolden (a lot of his threes were wide open though) misses a few it could have been a different game.

They really need to play fast and press to succeed - the half court offense looked rough. Perhaps a healthy Phillips would help some. Montana likes a slow pace, I think UNCW will struggle tomorrow if they can't force the pace.

RE: Zootown Classic @ Missoula, MT - GAMES 5/6/7 - 82hawk - 11-25-2021 08:00 AM

It's important to note how we made our comeback last night and then how it all fell apart.

Hawks' started the second half down 14 and immediately gave up two three pointer to go down 20.

19:12 43-23

Harvey missed 3 ptr.
Foul on Okauru
Harvey missed jumper
Harvey steal
Phillips fast break layup off Harvey assist
(Phillips and Baker out, Sims and Fornes in. No PG)
Harvey made jumper 45-27
Okauru missed 3 ptr.
Okauru TO
Okauru missed 3ptr.
White makes two FT's 47-29
Harvey 3 ptr.
Harvey 3 ptr. 50-35
Harvey missed 3 ptr.
White layup 50-37
White 3ptr. 52-40
Okauru missed layup
Harvey steal and layup 53-42
Harvey made FT
Harvey missed layup
White missed layup
Okauru missed layup
Sims 3ptr. 53-46
White missed layup
Fornes 3 ptr. 56-49
Okauru made layup
Sims made layup 58-53

During this comeback Harvey took 7 shots(12 pts.), Okauru 5 shots(2 pts.), White 4 shots(5 pts.) , Sims 2 shots(5 pts), Fornes 1 shot(3 pts), and Phillips 1 shot(2 pts)

8:50 left, UNCW down by 5 after being down by 21. It was pretty much the Harvey and White show, with some Okauru and Sims mixed in and one three pointer from Fornes.

White Subs out for Baker
Okauru missed 3 ptr.
Fornes missed 3 ptr.
7:36 Harvey goes out and White comes in 61-53
Sims missed 3 ptr.
Fornes missed 3 ptr.
6:08 Okauru out, Harvey in
Fornes missed 3 ptr.
White layup 63-55
Fornes missed 3 ptr.
White missed 3 ptr.
Sims missed 3 ptr.
3:18 Fornes TO 69-55
Sims made jumper
Fornes missed 3 ptr.
Sims made FT's 79-59
White made layup
Harvey made 3ptr. 80 - 64
Okauru missed 3 ptr.
Harvey missed 3 ptr.
Sims made two FT's 80-66

As the comeback collapsed, Harvey and White weren't a part of the offense. Harvey was subbed out with 7:36 left in the game and we were down by 8. He came back with 6:08 left in the game and we were down by 10. He didn't take a shot until we were down by 19 with :34 left in the game.

Fornes 5 shots(ZERO points), Sims 3 shots(6 points), White 3 shots(4 points) Okauru 2 shots(ZERO pts.) Harvey 2 shots(3 pts)

Okauru and Fornes are always ice cold from three, no surprise. So the key is to have other players lead your offense. Fornes should play a back up role and Okauru needs to stick to driving to the basket with maybe two attempts from three per game. Fornes needs to pass the ball and let others shoot. He's just not good on offense, turns the ball over and fouls a lot.

It seemed to me that at least Okaura's threes were mostly to get up a shot to beat the shot clock buzzer since they were unable to generate anything against the So Miss zone. The key play in the comeback that you listed above was probably the three that Fornes made. After that he pretty much had the confidence to jack up a shot every time he touched the ball.
