Since literally the only information we have from our Athletic Administration is that Little Rock and UTA weren’t on the same page going forward, and now we know that UTA is in serious discussions with the Missouri Valley along with UMKC and Murray State, it is time to be officially really worried about where Little Rock is headed.

Like I said on SBC board I think best landing (and I’ve been told internally some LR officials feel the same way) is ASUN. You make your all sport rivalry with UCA a conference game, you still maintain a presence in the southeastern footprint and you add trips to Florida (which could be prime recruiting spots for LR).

If not ASUN I would think OVC (it won’t be the same and I get the hesitation but geographic footbprint matches what LR has had traditionally and I would assume they would reload with other similar, regional schools like LR).

While I am depressed about the MoValley I would ratier be on a southern conference.

I don’t believe for one second that you would rather be in a “southern conference” over the basketball centric MVC. I know you recognize what a great thing that would have been for Little Rock. Add into that your saying you’d be ok with the Summit, and it rings even more hollow.

But, since it appears not to be, I guess the ASUN is actually our best option. Anything else, and we have definitely been relegated to the dumpster!

I question how "basketball-centric the MVC will remain. Loyola Chicago is leaving, and Missouri State has one foot out the door.

No, I'm definitely depressed about the Valley news. I guess my point was that, everything being equal, I would like to remain in the south. I am really not sure what our options will be. I do know that our financial situation cannot be real good at this point in time. I checked online yesterday and our current enrollment is only 7600. I remember when it was 14,000. The money we get from student fees has been greatly reduced. I was told tonight that UALR only has about 3600 full-time undergraduates. Those are small private school numbers, not the numbers of a "major" state university. Really don't know how we compete with universities like Georgia State (53,000 students), UTA (44,000 students), GaSo (27,000 students), Texas State (34,000 students), etc. Maybe we no longer do, although we have on the athletic courts/fields. The reality, although I don't like it, is that are numbers are much more similar (although likely smaller) to schools in the Southland and Ohio Valley conferences. Things are moving faster than I expected on the realignment front. I certainly have no interest in the Summit if Kansas City and let's say ORU move on. No idea who else might leave the Ohio Valley although Belmont is already gone and Murray State is next. Same with the Atlantic Sun, with Jacksonville State gone and maybe another school or two leaving. I could see some type of merger happening between the Southland and Ohio Valley with 2 mostly separate divisions. Maybe we could end up with the "northern" schools. Things are really in a state of flux right now.

The travel in the OVC seems ideal but if you're looking to stay south doesn't get much further than Florida and the ASUN probably needs some western members. In the OVC travel is not bad. Eastern Illinois and Moorehead State would be the only bus trip longer than 6 hours.

For us old timers with former delusions of grandeur, it’s a bitter pill to swallow to leave the TAAC 30 years ago because we thought we were to good to find ourselves possibly right where it all began 30 years later with 2 NCAA appearances for all our time in the Sun Belt. Oh well! We have the makings of an enjoyable team to watch so we can enjoy the team and let the chips fall where they may. I do not have the utmost confidence in our dept and University to do anything but end up with whoever wants us when the smoke clears.

Our baseball facility hurts us. We are competitive in the belt with what we have, but it is bad. If we could just build a new park at the Coleman complex. Dont understand why that isn't a priority.

I love our baseball field. Maybe it's because I remember what it looked like before Gary Hogan began fixing it up. It's a beautiful place to watch a game on a nice spring day. No, it is certainly not a baseball "stadium" like they have at ULL or Coastal Carolina. But it certainly more than meets our needs. The closest we have ever come to filling it was the exhibition game against the hogs and it wasn't even full then. If the Little Rock community suddenly decided to support UALR athletics, I'm sure we could work out a deal with the Travelers to play a majority of our games at Dickie Stephens. We play almost 2 months of our season, before they even start their season. Chasse Conque actually showed me the architectural plans for a stadium at the Coleman Complex. Looked really nice. Just don't know where will get the millions to pay for it and I honestly don't see the need for it. I really doubt the baseball fields, now that Wichita State has left, are much better in the MoValley.

Well, you are currently seeing the results of what happens when you run off a dynamic AD who had visions for the program. Conque was a fund raiser and would have gotten a baseball stadium done. Now we seem to just be waiting to get our execution date!

But saying the MVC probably doesn’t have baseball fields better than ours really undercuts your statement that the MVC isn’t basketball centric. What else are they if not basketball centric? Obviously by your own statement not baseball centric. And why would you think that Loyola moving to the A10 and the possibility of Missouri State moving up to FBS at some point make the MVC any less basketball centric?

And if UMKC moves to the MVC, the Summit offers one team a bus ride away to play. Everyone else in that league is a plane ride, or a freezing nightmare bus trip!

It wasn’t me who said they weren’t basketball centric. I don’t know anything about their other sports. I assume they play baseball, but I’m not sure how when it is freezing here for the first month or two of the season.
