As a program, I don't mind UIW joining the WAC. They are really on fire with their football and are competitive in many other sports. I think they can improve their facilities as well as bring the San Antonio market to the mix.

Others have pointed out there are excellent facilities nearby for football and basketball that UIW could use.

Now just add West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico University

It’s official:

https://www.wacsports.com/general/2021-22/releases/20211112gl1n7q

They’re joining in July 2022, the same time SUU is coming in and a year before NMSU and SHSU leave, so the conference will have 14 members next year.

Why would McNeese decline it if Incarnate Word was going to go?

RE: Incarnate Word is Joining the WAC - Tigerblud - 11-12-2021 11:39 AM

WAC should get San Diego since they fly across the country every week in football.

Interested in Seattle's take. Net win, because the WAC gets another private, Catholic school? Or will they jump at the first chance that they get?

I suspect for three reasons:

- To receive all of the conference event hosting benefits the Southland promised them.

- To keep travel for non-football sports largely within Louisiana.

- Because the threat of the Southland losing its FCS playoff bid could be mitigated by the emerging possibility that the Southland and Ohio Valley Conference (which will be down to only five football-playing members if Murray State leaves) will agree to jointly sponsor a single FCS conference.

If the WCC offers Seattle is gone.

But there’s no sign the WCC is interested. Like the MWC, the WCC’s best play for now is probably standing pat.

The cost of 4 or 5 trips in one sport is 100 x less than 63 scholarships.

They may believe they can get to FBS by staying in the SLC, without having to pay exit/entrance/exit fees by joining the WAC.

McNeese has all intentions of going FBS.

Their president and athletic director have said it multiple different ways over the last few weeks.

And I think you nailed it, they did not see any reason the WAC would help expedite or change their course in that direction.

I think last time SFA basketball played there, UIW had less than 200 attend the game. They make Sam Houston look like champions of fan attendance.

Less than impressed with this add.

No change. UIW is far away, means nothing. Like others have said, SU will leave at the first better opportunity.

It serves its purpose, and much better option than letting the WAC get Louisiana'd. For that I say, Bravo! 04-clap2

Getting kind of punch drunk from all the changes. It's not just the number of changes, it's that they're things I would have dismissed as delusional smack talk just a few months ago.

I like UIW and would be very happy to have them. But it's way out of line with what we were told about the reasons for the "Texas 4" leaving the Southland.
