The athletic has a short list of potential hires:

I think there had to be something else going on with Bowden. Akron is not an iconic program, it was moribund when he got there and he restored it to competitiveness after only one season. They fired him two seasons removed from a Division Championship. Terry may have been a huge pain in the butt, recruiting violator, had program discipline issues or something of that nature off the field. MAC coaches don't get fired for his W-L record, especially at a non-descript institution like Akron.

If I'm Akron, I'm checking on Rod Carey who appears to be on his deathbed at Temple. A very successful MAC coach who could not get it done at the higher level. Think John Groce, it has worked well for them in basketball.

Terry Bowden, the good Bowden son, got it on the teeth on behalf of all the Bowden children.
He was very vocal about dirty boosters at Auburn—I doubt he became dirty to win in Akron. He has ULM pointed in the right direction and they should be a force in the next two seasons.

There has got to be something else going in with Terry. He has elevated every program he coached and yet got fired twice after winning his conference division two seasons prior. At hillbilly crazy Auburn (I listen to the Finebaum show) I can understand that, but at low budget Akron? It makes no sense to me.
