Could the 4 adds join by 2022? - BeagleUSM - 11-01-2021 10:08 AM

Seems this is getting some play.

If Ben Moore is to be believed, the expanded ESPN deal is set to are effect in July 2022. That includes increased TV games and payouts. It would make sense for ESPN to offer this if the new schools were going to push to join in 2022. C-USA can function with 11 members and the Sun Belt isn't waiting on anyone to leave.

App and Marshall will have to scramble to find replacements in the nonconference schedule if MU starts next year.

So what? If it means you get Marshall in conference sooner, you do it. Chances of increasing CFP payout immediately versus years down the road.

The Sun Belt may need Marshall considering all that App is projected to lose in football.

I hear that LA Tech may be looking for games.

I think the Covid year showed you can get games scheduled fairly quickly. My bet is we see the new additions all start in 2022. Which absolutely excites everyone. Everything seems to be falling into place.

James Madison is available

I think we'd have to get a new game because we start a series with Troy in either 22 or 23.

Schedule the CUSA games they have to replace.

A similar thing happened to UNM and Nevada after teams left the WAC. TXST ended up playing one off games of each team to help them out.

Did a quick search and found the following FBS teams with an opening: Duke, Miami (2), Kansas, Rutgers, MTSU (2), UAB, UConn, UMass, CMU, and Kent State.

Someone out of the group would bite. If not, we can go the Wake-UNC route and play some conference teams in OOC. lol

JMU is probably getting kicked out of CAA play for 2022....so I think and hope that we'll be picking up as many OOC FBS games as possible - and backfill with some FCS to reach 10-12 games. Bring it on! Might get a little ugly, but learning experiences

The Troy return for this year was set for 2024. Except for an FCS game in 2023, we're set for 2022 and 2023 with no Sun Belt teams previously scheduled.

2022 would be great if everything can be figured out. Like anything the devil is in the details. Scheduling could be an issue however imagine can be adjusted

If schools leave CUSA in 2022, CUSA will either be down three schools (SB) or five (SB and MAC. That'll leave CUSA at 11 or 9, both of which allow for an 8 game conf schedule.

The AAC-bound schools won't leave until the AAC's Big 12-bound schools are taken in by the Big 12. That may not be until as late as 2025, when Texas and OU are, officially at least, are slated to leave for the SEC.

Anyway, CUSA will just rearrange to a non divisional structure if they drop for a year or two to nine or eleven members, meaning they won't be needing any more non conference games than they do right now.

All that said, yall are probably right. App, Marshall, Troy, and USM will find some games for the next year or two to plug hole. It'll work out.

Push comes to shove the Sun Belt could just not schedule you guys in conference. It's going to be a wonky schedule anyways with 13 so keep it as an "OOC" game for the one year and have it not count towards conference standings. Not ideal but if both teams are having a hard time filling the slot it'd be a nice work-around

If the MAC decides to indeed add WKU and MTSU, I think that C-USA indeed dissolves for good. And I think that both WKU and MTSU will make that move if the offer is extended from the MAC.

People are talking about some of these schools staying in C-USA to its last breath to collect exit fees, but you have to weigh that against the opportunity costs of being subsequently homeless and forced to take on the costs and logistical nightmares of independence. Nevermind the fact that your teams then have no ties to NCAA bids which makes recruiting, marketing, fundraising, etc. all the more difficult.

I think 2022 comes into play if C-USA falls apart.

They could be looking to add lots and lots of games if WKU & Mutts leave for the MAC.

These are people who don't understand that this money doesn't all go to them. They may see a piece.

It wouldn't be too hard, we can easily call up James Madison, because they will still be FCS rght? They could come to Huntington?
