Prepping for Marshall and ODU defections. Building up Texas/Midwest footprint again.

Think UTEP and LaTech just trying to buy time.

Any chance CUSA picks up New Mexico State?

RE: OT: CUSA eyeing Mo State, other FCS programs - RamblinRedWolf - 10-25-2021 07:01 PM

Very high probability they add nmsu I’d say

No more FCS call ups than necessary. CUSA can bow out gracefully. Form a new conference with UTEP, New Mexico State, La Tech, Middle Tennessee, Western Kentucky, and FIU form the basis of a semi decent conference. Call up just enough schools to meet NCAA requirements. Kill the CUSA name.

I'm wanting CUSA to look at Montana, NDSU, SDSU, Northern Iowa, Illinois St, Missouri St

Can an entire conference form with 90% FCS teams and just say they are FBS now??
How does that work?

First 3 and the last one yes.

New C-USA should try this:
1) La Tech
2) WKU
3) MT
4) FIU
5) UTEP
6) NMSU
7) Liberty
8) one FCS move up (one of Missouri State, NDSU, SDSU, or Northern Iowa type schools)

That would be terrific. Is anyone reporting this?

Suggesting those schools would just dissolve the conference is a prime example of tweeting without thinking.

Having a conference to fill out more than half of your FBS football schedule is preferable to trying to fill an indy schedule for any of the CUSA remainders, no matter how much TV money there is — and they get March Madness revenue plus the G conference share of CFP revenue, *and* they get all those exit fees.

Before everyone moans and cries about FCS moving up. Remember Sunbelt FCS has worked well.

App St. has yet to miss a bowl since becoming to bowl eligible
Coastal Carolina has been a success
Ga Southern & Ga State has up and down years. But look at the Stadium Ga State was able to get.
Tx State probably least successful of Sun Belt move ups.

CUSA
ODU, Charlotte were FCS and raided the Sun Belt for North Texas, FAU, FIU, Middle TN, WKU

I do find it ironic, CUSA tried to kill the Sun Belt. Five of the Seven Teams left the Sun Belt 2013 and 2014. Sun Belt rebuilt through FCS. So it can be done, CUSA just needs to get over it and decide how they are going to survive. I do think changing the conference name for 2023 is a great idea and use the Sun Belt Strategy of good football and being regional.

I can't see Montana being interested unless if Montana State and Sacramento State are along for the ride. There might have to be a few others from the Big Sky to tag along as well.

Mountain - Montana, Montana State, Sacramento State, Idaho, North Dakota State, South Dakota State
Southwest - UTEP, Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin State, Lamar, New Mexico State

The MAC needs to come in now, go for the throat, and stop a half dozen teams from rushing up to the FBS.

App State and Georgia Southern were super successful at the FCS level. If there are call ups that successful they should be called up. It seems like Missouri State has been thinking of moving up forever. Northern Iowa? Northern Arizona? Kennesaw State?

The MAC needs to come in now, go for the throat, and stop a half dozen teams from rushing up to the FBS.

They were all already on their way via the WAC.

The WAC is adding FBS football. They're working with the A-Sun.

If this realignment did not happen and everything in FBS was remaining the same as this year's standings, within a decade you'd have seen a 16-team WAC FBS conference:

WEST: New Mexico State (already FBS), Southern Utah, Dixie St, Tarleton St, Sam Houston State, Lamar, Stephen F. Austin, Abilene Christian
EAST: Liberty (already FBS), Kennesaw St, North Alabama, Jacksonville St, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, Austin Peay, and one other (likely James Madison).

Then after one season, the A-Sun would sponsor FBS football and there'd be 12 FBS conferences.

All this realignment is doing is keeping it down to 11 instead of 12.
